Does anyone else think that Nike's naming of their new irons, the Victory Red's, is juts a little on the weird side?

Not so much if your name is Tiger Woods, but i've seen numerous players walking round at the WGC with VR caps etc, and everytime i see one i think to myself "you're advertising Tiger's Sunday attire colour and it just isnt right"

Anyone else think the same as me or should i just shut up?

I'm on your wave length, also don't like the new adverts. Its as if all the other players have laid down and accepted when he is about they cant win or be number 1.

If Sergio were to win this weekend and Tiger finishes outside the top 28 Sergio moves to number 1 in the rankings!

It's not that i dont like Tiger, because i have a serious amount of man love and respect for him and what he's done for the game.

Its just that Nike have a lot of other very good pro's on their books, and they've sold them all out i think. Obviously Nike want to cash in on their highest commodity, but could they really not come up with a better name than what they have?

I'm pretty sure none of the other pro's using VR's are overly keen on the new name either!

I don't see the problem. The fact that these guys have done a spoof advert doesn't mean in their minds when they are on the course that they don't have a chance. I doubt any of them really give a damn about the product name. All Nike contracted staff would be worried about is how the clubs perform against their own expectations

i agree with you totally.Nike have sold out to Tiger in my view. What are they gonna do when Padraig Harrington and the like start to beat the great man himself on a regular basis??? Rory McIllroy is a safer bet for the future as far as i'm concerned.

They will do exactly the same as they did the last time, throw millions of $$$$ at a big name to come on over to the Nike camp, just like they did to Woods and Duval.

Whatever happens with Woods performance his year Nike are still laughing all the way to the bank. Woods will still be an advertising mans dream even if he doesn't hit the heights he was at before the knee injury.

Nike have sold many sets of clubs on the back of Tigers name. Virtually all these clubs have borne no resemblance to the actual clubs Tiger is /was using. The current VR models, all three of them, are selling well according to my local AG. The forged blades and the forged split cavity models do look nice, possibly the best looking clubs that Nike have made. Nike have even got a promotion on at present, AG have the clubs on a small rack/display in a very prominent position as you pass through into the main body of the store. Again this must be Nikes doing as AG normlally have all their stuff on the racks along the wall.

People who never played golf before Tiger have taken up the game. My daughter could identify him when she was 7yrs old because he was so evident on TV. People seem to identify with him as a golfer. He will remain up there on a pedestal until the next potential icon comes along. You can bet the advertising men are already looking at sone kid and thinking, "he's the next Tiger" !
