Well, first medal of the year today. What an "interesting" front 9. I managed every score possible;-

1 birdie; 4 pars; 1 bogey; 1 double; 1 triple; 1 quadruple = 9 over

4 pars; 5 bogeys on the way back for a nightmare 85.

Why does it always happen with a card in my hand???!!! I'll be up 0.1 after today and I'm playing the golf of my life. This game drives me mental.

Sorry, rant over chaps. :D

It's past, don't get to wound up about it. Look forward to the next and play within yourself, don't chase it and it should be a lot better.

Any positives today? How was the putting? How was your pitching after last weeks flubbed chips? Sometimes we just play S~~t and can't put a reason to it.

Maybe deep down, you're afraid the EUFA Cup is heading to Govan and that put you off today !

This is a common problem John. I suffer from this also.
I had a 3 and a 9 on my card on Saturday and every number in between. If you find a solution to this problem... bottle it!

I have tried balancing the score card by putting a placebo in my other pocket but to no avail. I now keep it in my bag but this makes no difference. In fact my playing partner in the medal had to borrow my pen as his ran out of ink filling in my card. :(

John,
probably trying too hard with high expectations from good form and a desire to get that h'cap down, maybe as simple as relaxing more, any tension will ruin a good tempo.

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys.....apart from DCB and the Govan thing .....I have Benny's voodoo doll out with a picture of Barry Ferguson, as we speak ;)

Thing is, the confidence is so high, that even after a 7 at the first and an 8 at the 5th I thought I could still beat my handicap handsomely. Still, have to take consolation out of being +5 for 15 holes from the back, back, back tees. It was like playing a different course today.

John
You have to have something to aim for but at the end of the day it isn't a life or death thing.

When I started again last year the 1st objective was just to get round, then get round without losing a ball, then to eliminate high scoring holes 8's down to 7's then to 6's.
I get annoyed when I hit a 6 now. but only until the next shot.
I shot back to back 77 & 78 and now anything above 82 I am disappointed in. I think that when put into perspective if someone had told me that I was consistently shooting low 80's after 8 months I would have snapped their hand off. Trouble is now I want MORE!!!!!!!.
That's the nature of the game :D

Gill,

I think you're right, and have known it for some time. I'm only a 5 day member so can't play in regular medals, only the Wednesday ones. That maybe means 5 per year in playable weather. Puts the pressure on to play well during those.

Still, off to Dornoch, Lossie and Nairn for 3 days golf with pals at the weekend. Today will be forgotten by the 2nd large Jack Daniels!

I'm just the same I've been hitting the ball really well this year but come a comp' I forget what I'm doing and lose my head totally.

I've got 2nd round of a big comp' on this weekend and need to play to about 4 to qualify for the next stages - so I doubt I'll be in the knockouts!!

A mate of mine played open quali' at Nairn a few years back. He said it was fantastic, and difficult!

All the best for the trip & enjoy those JDs - although, shouldn't you be on scotch??

although, shouldn't you be on scotch??

...the Jack Daniels are just a warm up for some Rusty Nails afterwards, Gill. Does that count?:D

Yes, Nairn fantastic but not difficult from the gent's tees unless it's blowy. I will enjoy either way.

I had a nightmare on Saturday (26 points) after thinking my game was showing signs of recovery. Had a lesson today so off to the range tomorrow night to work on the changes and see what happens on Sunday in the medal

Totally agree, Tomo. Wanted to go full member this year exactly for that reason but didn't have a spare £750 to spare as the remainder of the joining fee! Will try and play in the rest of the available medals and "not give a damn " about the score. Never thought about joining another club. I know a lot have waived the joining fee in my area lately but the better ones still have a waiting list.

How far away are you from Haddington, it's right near the A1? It has no fee and reduced to £333 for new members this year. I had a look in there tonight and it was looking real good. It's a fair test being about 6350 yards or so, tree lined. Thinking about it myself for next year.

It's nearer me, Tomo, but I've played it once and didn't like it, I'm afraid. Just didn't do it for me.

Played Kilspindie at the weekend for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Short but lovely, though. Will have to have a think about things.

J,This is what has been depressing me mate, in bounce games can't do much wrong, simple golf, par par par, bogey the odd birdie to cheer you up, then it all goes to the wall when you play of the comp tees. I feel absolutley fine on the way to the course, on the tee,and in address but someone up in the clouds has a grudge it just doesn't happen.

just keep plugging away mate it will come !!!

my medal was more boring: 6 pars, 9 bogeys, 3 doubles for another .1 up

teh last double was particularly disappointing because i only needed a bogey on the last to play into the buffer zone. hole 18 is a shortish par5 but with trouble lurking round the green. i was 90yards from the green with 2 but in some thickish rough. hacked that into the fringe but 2 chips and 2 putts later i was up to 12.0 :(

John I know that problem only too well mate, all winter I have played great golf only to blow up in all the medals I have played this year.
Tuseday was the exception shot 80 with 2 penaltys played really steady with no big numbers for a change, got cut 1.2, then as soon as I got of the course had a call from GM to say I won the Dundonald Masters comp so things are going my way at last.
