Having gone 15-20 rounds without scoring a par on our (easy and short) Par 4 11th, I finally managed one yesterday.

The hole is less than 300 yards and I usually slice or top a drive, but decided to take a 3 iron off the tee yesterday. Left me about 110 yards into the green so popped in an easy PW and two putted for par. Was well chuffed, especially considering that the last two times I played it I drove the green and 4 putted and racked up a 9 with a thinned chip and two duffed chips.

the mental block that you have just lifted from yourself is great for self beleif if nothing else. had to do the same with our 11th/SI1

well done fella.

Good effort.. and i bet you're thinking now how simple it is! Stick with it, birdie next time out!

Good news.....and I'm pleased to say that so far, the signs are good for my nemesis, our Par3 12th. Plated it 4 times in recent weeks, and got my Par on 3 occasions

Mind you, as soon as the comps start, it morph's from a relatively simple 165yarder to a more measly 199yds from the Whites.

Not so easy.

However, I have a cunning plan for this year......

An R11 and you can only just hit it 300 yards! What's wrong there?!?

Great that you've bettered this hole though - it's the internal pressure thing again.

With driver in hand you are expecting to hit the green so you try to knock the coating off the ball and end up in the rough. Or you get near to the green off the tee and switch off thinking "job done".

By hitting the fairway and giving yourself a hot to the green you keep the focus but also keep it positive.

Now, after all those wise words - why the hell can't I put them into practice?!?

:D

The driven green was actually pre-R11 and with a very wintery tail wind/frozen fairways!

We've got a similar hole. Par 4, 270 yard, downhill. protected by a couple of bunkers at the front left, but not exactly difficult.

I've never seen a hole cause so many problems.

It's almost reverse psychology, it's so easy it's actually makes it hard because you know you should par it at worst and that puts the pressure on.

I had the same issue on our 9th. 130 yard par 3. Easy. Took me 20 rounds before I even hit the green. I pulled my tee shot every time. And once I got that image in my head, every time I stepped on the tee I couldn't get rid of it. Hey presto, off left the ball would fly.

Sounds like our 4th. Only 320 off the whites so getting there isn't any issue. However the green is severely contoured back to front and right to left as you look at it and so three and four putts are common and hitting the green isn't a guranteed par.
