Last night my club organised a shotgun start 9 hole texas scramble night golf event which was great fun. Myself, off 18, and three 26 handicappers managed to knock it round in 3 over gross which included double bogeys on our first and last holes. We sat in the bar afterwards and decided that we had probably done well enough to not come last but ended up finishing 2nd. Not sure that they got the handicaps quite right as we were given 9.6 shots (10% of 18+26+26+26). I assumed that as it was only 9 holes instead of 18 we should have been given 5% instead.

Got to say that if you haven't ever tried it you should give it a go. Glowsticks down the edge of the fairways, around the green and on the pin and balls with glowsticks inserted. The only issue is that the balls were so hard that they made Pinnacle distance balls feel like Pro V's.

my place done this, was very popular so much so I was there a week after the card went up and could not get in.

I was told they had a few problems with the lights on the balls going out though.

Just been watching videos of night golf on Youtube. Flashing balls, luminous flags, and even luminous holes. It looks like a good laugh although you probably have to be quite mad to get involved. :D

We have had it at our place but there aren't many of the seniors who want to play so we haven't done it for a few years. Great fun evening and a taxi home afterwards!

We're having it at Ashford next year. I'm helping organise it with the captain. We're also doing a 9 hole cross country event, 9 tees to the wrong greens. Should be fun.

Couldn't convince our course to do this, you need the right layout to do it effectively without having people crisscrossing one another's drives ..... the safety aspect is a nightmare !

I haven't played it myself, but a friend of mine has and will never do it again. One cracked 3 wood face, and one cracked 2 iron face later, it ended up costing a lot of money.

Assume you mean from night golf?

Our plan with the cross country is to put a map up in the club house and people select the route round the course. We're only doing 9 holes.

We were told not to use drivers, fairway woods or hybrids as that could happen. My 3 wood only cost me £20 so I used it anyway and got away without any damage. If I play again I'll take one of my old drivers that I don't mind damaging out of the garage as it's a big advantage being able to hit that against all the other teams playing irons off the tees.

Is that down to the balls they use? That's incredible if they do that much damage!

Sorry but I played it once and it was the least fun I ever had in my life!

It was mid August but bitterly cold, it was so difficult to see where you were walking and we were one of the few groups to finish because of the cold. I wouldn't do it again if picked up in a gold limo!
