Has anyone got a nickname for a particular club? My friend decided to announce to the group that he was taking out "The Widow Maker" (His 3 wood) right before he hooked it into the Irish Sea.

In the early days of Lob Wedges, they had all sorts of names.

Blob wedge, wedge of death, nostril scarer.. there must have been others... oh yes, double-hit wedge was one. :)

my mate used to call his driver THE EX,when someone asked him he said "its named after my ex wife because she never did as she was told and worked better when in another mans hands, and it was cheap."i always thought it was because he got it part-ex

I've taken it to a level where the names are etched on each club for all the world to see, I don't care, I'm mad me I am.

You should see there faces when I announce "time to use the 4 wood here" or "this is a job for my trusty 7 iron"

gets them everytime:lol:

My gap wedge is called "First girlfriend". Because I want to dump her and move on to something better but then she does something good to make me keep her a little longer.

Sand-iron is "The executioner" because one swing and it's over for you. Lob wedge is "The Executioner's Assistant".

And now I can hit my 7-wood both ways, it is "Clare Grogan" because I would love to have seen her do the same :-)

When I started playing, a mate and I used to refer to our 4-irons as "MacBeth" as we always seemed to hit "unlucky" (read "bad") shots with them so we decided it was bad luck to mention them by name on the course. If (when) we hit a bad shot with another club we blame it on touching the MacBeth while getting the other club out of the bag. The truth is, we weren't very good with any club but it's always good to have an excuse isn't it :D

Funnily enough all mine are four letter names and they all look the same on here :D

My dad used to have an old wooden driver with an aluminium (alloy) shaft that he called Dirty Girty. Loads of people tried, but I never saw anybody hit a good shot with it, the shaft just seemed to be dead. Probably still in his garage with the other junk.
