Did you see the debate last night. Clegg was not very impressive and rather sillly in my opinion, he seemed to be clutching at straws and prone to exaggeration. Farage was much better in stating his view and supporting it with reasoned debate.

Didn't see the debate unfortunately. I do like to watch them - perhaps I'll watch it via BBC iPlayer.

The issue with debates is that they are only useful for the moment if you're point-scoring. In the last general election, Clegg was the winner in the three-leader debate, riding the waves of immediate popularity. Months later he's responsible for the lowest ratings ever seen by LibDems.

Farage is rather good on this particular topic which, in a debate, will always favour the 'Needs to Change' point of view imo - the benefits of the status quo are far less obvious than the disadvantages.

I find it interesting that UK is having this debate - and a referendum on exiting - while arguing that Scotland is better off as part of UK!
Has Farage been asked his opinion on Scottish Independence?

The debate touched on it at one point but Dimbleby moved it on as not being the subject matter.

Understandable. While not entirely 'subject matter', the concept of being in control of your/our own country - being 'governed' by others - is absolutely what Farage's argument is about!

Not really sure of the value of this type of debate...

But, in summary... Nick said nothing to change my views... Nigel confirmed that I wish someone other than he was carrying the flag for those that want out...

Surely they're all slimy career politicians...

Farage spent 20 years in business before going into politics. Not saying he's the man for the job but I do think it would help matters if politicians had to spend time in the real world rather than coming out of Eton/Oxford and straight into a political career.

Three quarters of the cabinet are millionaire career politicians - I don't think it's healthy for decision making and think it increases discontent among vast swathes of the public.

And most of them are slimy to some extent. Clegg definitely tops the list though.

He has a point you know

Reading a book at the moment called glory and bollox. What an absolutely fascinating read. Trouble is I am never one for keeping facts and figures in my head which is probably why I was quite thick at school.

anyway back to topic, in this book is a section on the Battle of Britain and winston Churchill in particular. Now for a man who saved us from the Hun he was a bit of a tool, and when you read of his heritage, he was destined to be a mp, as was half of the people mentioned in the book and am not just talking about the last few elections but centuries and some of them would sell there mother for a bob.

When asked at school what they wanted to be, it wasn't a bobby, spaceman or racing driver, it was mp for ecclesthorpe east and they were serious. They were only 6yr old when asked

eg the Magna Carta what a crock of crap, for the common man. Really, lords, dukes and the upper gentry (early day mps) it looked after, tashyboys ancestors had no chance of a look in and still don't.

The sad thing for the liberals is they will not be taken seriously for a long time. Farage will take Tory votes, simply because he attracts the uneducated bigots, seriously how much has the EC affected your lives negatively?? No one mentions the positives, the key goals of the EC have been achieved. Next time you go food shopping or eat a meal look at your plate and think about what would not be on it if we were not in the EC. Also think about the successful international companies employing uk people because the skills are here and we have a door to the European mainland with free trade ...if you don't want Europe live in America, you won't be missed.
