Hi chaps, my friend and I are off work for 2 weeks now so we'd like to get 6/7 games in ideally.
We're looking at paying no more than £25-£30 a round. Not because we're tight but more because we haven't been playing long and we think us paying £60+ for a round is pointless really at this stage in our game.

So far we've booked Welford, Handsworth Wood and Aston Wood. We don't mind travelling a little bit so can you recommend any other courses for us to try please?

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get the Derby at the Belfry for £20 in the afternoon, great little course with very fast greens at the moment.

Also West Midlands is a good option with an island green par 3 like TPC Sawgrass 17th (Also around the £20 mark around 12ish)

Lickey Hills!! Arguably one of the best municipals in the country. Its in South Birmingham near the old Rover Longbridge plant. Fabulous little track, one that I have played many times! Big Ron Atkinson is also a regular there as he lives very close by.

ATM, I think its about £17 a round there.

I'm still to play Lickey Hills and I really want to. Believe it or not I had an under 25 MyTime gold card (Only £100) which allowed me to play any MyTime course in the country for free and I didn't give it a bash

I played The Warwickshire the other week for £20 and that was really good value. There's 2 courses there and both are decent tracks for that price.

I will be over at your place next Tuesday to use my voucher that my Girlfriend got me for my 21st! Looking forward to a round on either the Derby or PGA!!

Another one for Lickey Hills, great little course for a municipal. Not so keen on West Midlands as played earlier this year, not a bad course but apart from 18th not a lot stood out

Drayton Manor is a nice little James Braid track, just round the corner from the Belfry.

Played Welford today, booked Bransford in Worcestor for tomorrow and then Wharton park friday. Can't wait. Although after reading the reviews for Bransford I'm worrying a bit!

Make sure you have a buggy for Wharton Park - you'll need oxygen if it's a hot day and you don't have one. I must say that it's a decent track and very reasonably priced. Another one you could try is Druids Heath near Aldridge - played it two weeks ago and was impressed for the cost.

What is it about needing a buggy at Wharton Park? The first is a par five up a hill but then drops down to the second green and third is flat. Gentle walk up to fourth tee and then drops down fifth. Walk up the par three eighth from the seventh green to ninth tee is the hardest walk on the course. After that only the first part of the sixteenth is much uphill.

I know plenty of older members who walk it 3 or 4 times a week. If you want a buggy though.have one and book it in advance. Hope you have a good day there.

Decent pay n' plays around Birmingham include Lichfield, Stonebridge, Abbey Hotel & Bromsgrove, all good value. Good municipals I've played are Lickey Hills and Hilltop. The best course I've played in the area is Harborne, a private club that accepts visitors, also takes Greenfree vouchers.
