So who would you have for Wales?

I'm going with Sandy as the last of the great 80s major winners not to have had the honour yet. Ollie should and probably will get it for next time in the USA, with Monty lined up for Gleneagles in 2014. imo

Better hope the RC isn't somewhere a bit nippy if Sandy is in charge, it might not get played at all, with everyone waiting for the sun to come out.

Jug ears Lineaker should be captain. He has all the golf experience necessary after his brief golf career.

May be it is time a 'professional' captain was appointed, rather than just a past it player, with no qualification for the job except he used to be able to play a bit?

The man who I would have again is the best and most respected of recent times captain Langer.
Sandy deserves it for all he has achieved in golf but then again so did Faldo..... ;)

I agree with Dodger, Langer is the best option, he may sound and behave like an automaton but he knows exactly what he is doing.
Woosie probably did a lucky dip and things happened to work out ok for him, Sandy has lost our respect and doesn't come across as a leader.
Olly is captain material, the rest I'd be wary of.

Who the heck asked Monty's opinion? and why should that carry any weight?

Langer was a decent Captain, but would his reputation be tarnished if he did it again and lost?

May be if Sandy does it, and wins, he would be restored in our eyes.

Clark and Monty will be good captains but first they have to put to bed their carers.

I would give Faldo another go, yes he cocked up in the way he stacked the players on the last day, he deserves another go.

Failing that, I would say Birdieman

When a lot of comment around Faldo as a choice for captain was about being a good player but not a good communicator/man manager why do we have to have Lyle just because he is the last of the 80s major winners not to be captain? IMO he would be a very poor choice and his walk-off confirmed my thoughts about his suitability.

I think Woosnam's captaincy in 2006 was successful despite his input rather than because of it. He was just fortunate to have a good team around him at the time.

If we have to have a "star name" as captain then Faldo wouldn't be the worst person in the world to re-select. At least he has experience and hopefully learnt from mistakes made this time around. The best choice though would be Langer.

Then again why choose Major winners, I mean Mark Roe seems to know it all... ;)

I'd go for Langer. Always seems to make the right decision.

Lyle is a definite no go in my opinion. You have to lead by example. Being a fair weather golfer is no example to set.

Woosie would help with the crowds but have to say I didn't think much of him as a captain before, despite the result.

Olly. Save him for America next time round. Or have him this time then Langer for 2012.

Langer or Ollie for me. I dont have much enthusiasm for Sandy Lyle, he may well make a good Cpt but I like him as much as I like mardy assed monty, who has a moan about everything on earth as a cause for his failures.

If not Faldo again, then Ollie.

Much as I love to watch Mig and DC I don't see either as an RC captain; not Lyle for reasons already stated, Woosie out of time, McGinley and Monty still active players. Parnevik - where did he come from as an option?

Ken Brown - doesn't really come across as a front man but . . .

why not Ronan Rafferty - he knows a lot!

Anyway the next captain if not Faldo will not be UK and may not be Irish - politics

Parnevik is really just a it of a flyer. Can;t see him as captain, but the Swedes have contributed a lot over the years, and he would be the only candidate from there at this time. He might get the next USA one though if Ollie doesn;t fancy it.

Of course Monty would say Lyle as it would probably mean he is out of the running come Gleneagles time when Monty wants to be the big boss man in his 'home' country.

There is logic in saving Ollie for the next US trip, but maybe he could do it twice?

That said, I'm still not convinced that the Captain really makes that much of a difference. Did Azinger really help the US sink putts from all over and drop shots on a sixpence on the greens? Did Faldo really make Garcia, Westwood and Harrington play a bit rubbish?

Not Lyle for me, for all the opinions already covered.

For me it would be Faldo. I have the utmost respect for what he did as a player and think he would have learned alot from his experience the first time round.

I'll go for Lyle. Forget the fiasco at the Open, at least he told the truth when asked! Would we all be happy knowing he played crap but said that he tweeked his back ? (How many of us would play a medal in those conditions?) Lyle has a wealth of experience and has played at the top of the game, all be it a few years ago, but he was one of our greatest players for a good number of years and I think he should be given the chance before some of the younger guys get a chance.

If we were to go for a repeat then Bernhard Langer would be my preffered option. He is so methodical and will cover every angle in preparation.

What we really need is 12 players who are hungry for it the next time around. Maybe losing this one was just the kick up the backside Europe needed. None of those involved will have been happy too be on the biggest losing margin since the early '80s. Next time they must want it so bad, just like the USA did this time.
