I am not a big hitter, not by GM Forum standards, but out of our playing group, certainly one of the longer off the tee.

Alas, I am now being out driven with alarmingly regularity by my chums. I feel less of a man.

The culprit (aside from my shoddy swing) is my X2 Hot Driver. After all the marketing guff about it being filthy long, I'm finding that to be simply not true. Go back to this time last year (in similar conditions) and my G15 was consistently 5-10 yards longer. A stock regular shaft in both, but with the Callaway having an extra '5 years golfing technology(?)' and I see no improvement or distance gain.

Newer? Yes. Longer? Pish.

Have you still got your old driver to compare against ?

It could also be a swing difference and a confidence issue in the club

Newer won't be longer unless it suits you as well.

Comparing all the numbers in detail is the only way to make an objective comparison - unless it's a matter or confidence...

what was the loft and shaft in each?

I use a driver that's 7 years old and it's still as long as anything else I've tried over the last few years.

I think that this is a really telling post and one that I too agree with.

We're all of us too keen to believe the marketing hype of the major manufacturers. But if what they're peddling is true then a player hitting a TM Firesole Driver 15 years ago would be hitting it 80 yards further with the latest super-duper mega club.

To me the top equipment companies are engaged in nothing more tha selling soap powder or detergent. It's possible to make computer modelling say anything, but in the real world it's simply nothing more than statistics and selling snake oil.

I'll balance it out by saying that when I went from then R1 to SLDR I gained about 10-15 yards in distance

When I went from Burner 3 Wood to RBZ I gained around 20 yards.

was the g15 the draw version?

xhot 2 shaft is 46" g15 was 45.75" if not fitted otherwise.

g15 had a great rep as a forgiving driver with great moi figs. westwood kept using it for a long time, only recently seen him with a g30.

the drivers & manufacturers that claim distance, you'll only find that extra long distance if you strike center.
if you strike off center the shots you'll get some help but the long distance gains quoted will be from a center strike.

all marketing stats that quote figs in tests will be true, they have to be, but they've been tested with a mechanical robot that when programmed doesn't miss center.

longer shaft with center strike with the right launch conditions will always strike the ball further.

Having this very problem myself at the moment, I had a 10.5 "Crews Tourlink D-460" which I could hit "250 and more" all day long but it broke so I bought a new "Tour Edge Bazooka HT Max-D 10.5" which I'm struggling get off the tee let alone in a straight line but when I do get it right boy don't it go some !...:fore:

I know what you mean and recently I bought an original RBZ driver from a mate and it has gained me 10 or so yards over my King Cobra. I like how it looks and feels and so consequently WANT to believe I've made a good choice, which of course I have.

But I can honestly say that my overall distance gain with a driver over my first serious driver (Firesole 10.5) from 1999 would be nothing greater than 10-15 yards. Were I to believe the hype of year-on-year improvements yielded by the latest incarnation then I'd be booming it out 300 yards of carry.

I honestly do believe that we sometimes WANT to believe the hype. Me included :mmm:

Your typing is shorter than everyone else's as well.

The manufacturers have to say that their latest is longer and it could be if fitted perfectly. The legal limit on COR means that for a few years now all heads are virtually the same in that respect so they have tried various other methods, lighter shafts-faster swing speed, stiffer shafts-high launch etc and you wont benefit if it does not suit you.
I have been using Callaway FT drivers for a while now and when the R11 was released my local range had an offer, longer than your existing driver or a free pack of balls which I walked away with, trackman showed 303y with my FT and 285y with the R11!

I would say you haven't tried before you bought then.

Get a demo club on the range at least or get a proper fitting. Don't just buys based on ads.

Maybe the shaft doesn't suit you? It doesn't matter how old the technology is if it isn't right for you.
