Hi all, just registered on the forums and loking forward to picking up some tips.

A little bit about myself -

used to be a single figure handicap, was once as low as 6 but stopped playing 12 years ago while playing off 8. Bought a cheap set of clubs 3 weeks ago and have been to the range a few times, found I can still hit a pretty mean ball (short game needs a hell of a lot of work mind you). Played 2 or 3 times on a local 6 hole par 3 course, and seriuosly have the golf bug again. Will be playing my first 18 hole round in the next couple of days with a view to breaking 100 !!

As I said before looking forward to picking up hints and tips from the forums here.

p.s what would be a reasonable price to pay for a set of not bad condition ping eye2 irons (2 - SW) ??. I have a chance of a 2nd hand set, used to use them a few years back when I played.

Welcome to the forum! I am in much the same boat as you, just back from a break. Only I was never in single figures!

As for the eye2 2nd hand price, I am sorry but not much help there.

Welcome Keyser_Soze!
Sounds like you might find a few golfers in a similar position here.
I think breaking 100 might be no target for you! It'll come back pretty quick, but the consistency of your shots could be frustrating....as it is for me.
I never got near 6...so welcome, I'm sure you will have lots of experience to share around.

Enjoy, we're a good bunch of lads and lasses.

I'll post my score here after I've played, not wanting to blow my trumpet too much but the course I'm going to play is only 5,500 yards long and at a par 68 with 2 or 3 reachable par 4's I'll be pretty dissapointed if I don't break 90 never mind the ton, however I played 9 holes today on a par 3 course ranging from 65 - 180 yards and on 6 of those holes I took 3 or more 6 times when around the green. At least I know the part of my game I need to work on !!

As for changes in the game - wow, its no contest compared to the mid 1990's, I picked up my driver and thought how can I hit something this big !! then promptly ripped one 250 odd with a nice draw (won't comment too much on the 10 or so that followed at the range)

Looking forward to talking more with some fellow golf nuts and cant wait to get back on the course.

Welcome from me too. Remember it is a game neve conquered. You might find intial joys as you get back into it and your scores begin to tumble but Madam Golf is a fickle woman and is only toying with your emotions. Sh eknows once you have started to reach thos long lost pinnacles of playing of 6 she will cruelly take your putting touch from you one week replacing your normal silky touch with hands of lead.

Then just as you fight back thinking it was only a blip, she will steal your driving prowess as that much loved draw descends into snap hooks with an unexplained slice just to keep you interested.

At the end of the day though welcome back to this silly game we all enjoy. It will still drive you mad but at least the equipment may be newer and shinier for you. I hope you enjoy your comeback and more importantly enjoy the banter from tis motley crew. Welcome!

Happy golfing

Homer
