hi all new person here. i love the magazine of G.M i really liked the sport but i have never really understood it very well until i decided to get Tiger woods on the Consoles but i have always wanted to get out there on the green and have a real go.

what/where is the best place for a beginner like me should go ??

hope Mcllory does well in the Ryder cup this year.

thanks jonathan

Get some lessons asap and see you if feel you will like the game.

Go to your local golf club and ask to speak to the pro. Get a few lessons booked and get a firm understanding of the fundamentals. Then get out and practice. After that the bug will have bitten and there is no turning back

Welcome to the forum. It varies from place to place. My club pro does them for £16 per half hour buy 5 get 6th free same price members/non members.

I am staying patient with it, I think you have to, but there are other people on here who have had no lessons and play off low handicaps.

The argument is that lessons will enable you to reach your full potential as you'll get the basics right which means that if I hadn't had any I'd be stuck playing off 28 after a year :o

Hopefully you'll make quicker progress than I have! :D

i have sent a email too my local golf club *still waiting as i type this if no answer by weekend- Monday i will pop down the club myself and ask for pro and possible buy my first Iron :D

Welcome Jonathan.
Judt echoing what's already been said.
Get some lessons to get the basics right and go from there. The basics are the fundamentals and you have a better chance of progressing further with them in tow.

Good luck!! :)

A lot of clubs don't check their emails as well as others!! Just pop in to the pro, explain that you may well be interested in taking the game up and see what he suggests. A lot of pro's offer block bookings, say 5 or 6 lessons, at a reduced rate for complete beginners to see if you will get to like the game or not.
Worth asking.
Trouble is, if you do get "the bug" be prepared to spend lots and lots of time, effort and money in your quest for happiness. Oh, and you are never satisfied by the way
;)

to have lessons will i need to go to the local GC and book one and what are the normal prices ?

hi mate, not too distant neighbour - same county at least

not sure of clubs round Ely but within Cambridgeshire you will find Clubs and Pros charging from the sublime to the ridiculous. it's not always purely a matter of quality either. my track I could pay £45/ 1/2 hour (I won't) top class pro though. I hop over the border and get four for £50 with a pro I get on with - that is important. most pros will offer package deals, check them out.

i have seen a few so far the local is just up the road from me another one is on the other side of Cambridge wow 45 quid for 1/2 hour that is way too much for my asking price.Where is this boarder that you hop too ?

the only problem that i do have if i do get lessons is that i hope they will understand i am deaf (will tell them in advance).

i have got a Email off of the local club and they said it 20 pound for 1/2 hour and provide they own club that we can used. i am humming and Haring to get my own clubs or what and 40 quid a hour is not that bad so i cant wait to get out there
