Hi. Thinking of entering an Open event as the weekend of the Men's Club Champs will be very busy! Anyone played Newark and have good or bad opinions? It gets good reviews on Golfshake...

Cheers.

Sorry Amanda I've never played although its not far from me. Our captain has booked it for his away day but can't make it as I'm on holiday. From what I've heard it's not a bad course.

Thanks for that. I'm guessing the Captain would have checked it or also heard good things so that's a positive

A pretty decent track - Tyke is a member and will be along soon to fill you in. Back in April he hosted a 4-ball with MadAdey, MetalMickie and me. We had a really nice day on a very well presented course, well worth a visit.

Excellent - thanks for that. Sounds a great option for a new course to play, and a bit of competition too!

HI Amanda,

I played Newark for the first time on Friday. It was our Captains exchange day, so a group from Newark came and played our course, and we went and played Newark and only had to pay for food. What an excellent idea !!

The course was very pleasant, with lots of grass (as the locals kept telling us), but we found that the long grass only seemed to exist in front of tees, and up where a drive would land, the long grass was nicely cut back, so didn't spend a lot of time looking for balls. as most/all holes are tree lined, there are plenty to work around. I particularly liked the 14th Hole, which is a severe 90 deg dog leg to the left, with out of bound all down the left, and VERY large trees all the way down to the corner of the dogleg. the only way to play this hole is to hit an accurate shot that goes between 240 and 260 (off the whites). The food afterwards was top class as well !.

Mind you I should tell you that I managed to shoot 19 pts in the morning and 39 in the afternoon with a gross 76, so got cut to 7 :-) so I may be looking thro slightly rose tinted glasses.

Go for it, you will enjoy it. I'll be back anytime I get a chance.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Ian. I'm not seeing a reason NOT to go and they still have entries so will go for it! Quite pleased I won't be playing the 14th off the whites though

It's very popular with the less young members as it's pretty much dead flat so you should be just fine ;).
Not as long as your place although the first needs 2 good hits.... (dont go left) and dont try and cut off too much of the dogleg on the 18 th :o

Nice course and, as Bomb says, dead flat. I enjoyed it but it has been a couple of years since I have played it. My only issue is that it has one of my pet hates, separate car parks for members and non members.

Hi Amanda, i may be slightly biased due to being a member, but i would rate the course and facilities first class.
The course is playing very well at the moment and is in very good condition, the front 9 is by far the more difficult a lot longer and tighter, if you can play steady going out you can really score on the back 9 which is a lot shorter and more open. Saying that i prefer the back 9 as there are some very quirky holes on it. And playing off the reds you would only need a drive of between 160 - 180 yards to reach the corner on the 14th:)
The practice facilities are excellent, we have a nice putting green, chipping area and a grass driving range with callaway balls costing £1 for 30.
The food is renowned as been exceptional, just ask anybody who has tried the famous cow pie:)

The place can't be that bad it is still the only course in the area that still has a waiting list.
If you do decide to play, i hope you have an enjoyable day.

PS - @GB72 - Greg after seeing the state of your motor there is a reason for separate car parks mate;)

Sounds better all the time. Entry confirmed (excellent and rare to have online bookings) so have asked what the grub is and waiting to hear if it's Cow Pie

Really looking forward to it...hoping David and I do well as we have a good record in mixed opens

Amanda, i played in the Captains Day Comp on Sunday, only 4 out of 192 competitors bettered par:ooo:
By eck it's playing tough at the moment, but in fantastic condition, i had 34 points and finished 14th:confused:
I hope you have a great day.
