Looking at getting a new set of irons next year and wondering what my options are. Had a quick look online and there looks to be some decent bargains about and will eventually go and test a few sets just wanted some opinions before I go on what I should be looking for.

Play maybe 2-3 times a month from spring to early autumn, not a member of a club and play off around 25/26 still. Pretty inconsistant, not a long hitter but can at times play a decent round so want to try improve (will be having the odd lesson too).

I want new irons rather than having lessons instead, I've got a bit of money tucked away at the moment but was wondering if there is a time to go get new irons ie when new clubs are released etc.

Looking at spending between £150 to maybe £250, would like a brand new set but will also look at second hand sets especially like G15's (played half a round with some and liked them). Seen the TaylorMade Burner's for £200 but they were steel shafts, like the look of the Callaway Razr, also seen the Cobra AMP's at a decent price too, Mizuno JPX 800.

I've got a G20 3 wood that may be going which may also fund my new set.

Any advice would be really helpful.

I'd take a look at wilson staff irons, especially the D series (di7, di9, di11)

Very underrated clubs, nice and forgiving and look really good down by the ball, unlike a lot of game improvement irons lately that look like spades.
American golf have the di11 for 200 quid, and the di7 for 150. Have played the di7's myself and really like them.

If you want a bit less forgiveness and more workability then you could always look at the ci11's which are 250.

On the r11s for £99 thread there are a few folk picking up mizuno s at bargain prices-might be with looking at if you want to go new.

For me the best approach is (and has been) going to the local range and buying from their trade in/ex demo rack. I've tried quite a few irons that way and if I don't like them I can trade them back or sell on e-bay for minimum loss.

Yes going to go to Express Golf at Shay Grange and test a few in the new year, see what I think.

Them Cobra Amps look great value, would steel shafts be ok?

Think it was online golf that I saw some good deals, will keep a check on clubhouse, snainton etc too.

Cheers for the recommendation on Wilson, I have liked the look of some there clubs.

Steel shafts are more common in irons,I've never considered graphite tbh. Wilson Staff do make some good irons,I think they get overlooked sometimes.
