Hoping somebody can point me in the right direction?
I have recently changed my irons and am now looking at my woods. I am currently using Callaway Steelhead Plus and have 9.5 degree driver (firm shaft) together with the matching 3 and 5 woods. I have been playing with them for the past 5 or 6 years and have been very happy with them. I like them because you can actually feel some weight in the head which for me promotes decent clubhead speed. I hit them really well, especially my 3 wood. Consistent distance and accuracy, finding "most" fairways. But I appreciate they are getting a little long in the tooth now and am possibly thinking of changing them. I have tried friends newer woods in the past but don't really like these massive great heads. Despite their size, they feel like wands in my hands with no real weight at all. I find that I am not getting through the ball so well which ends up with me blocking my shots right. OK I guess I could try to speed up through impact but I'm not getting any younger (52) and don't want to risk messing up any "rythmn" that I have.
Can anyone recommend a decent wood that is not too massive, and one which will still feel "weighty" in the head? Or am I looking for something that doesn't exist anymore? I know that the ideal solution would be to get down the driving range and try a few out, but I now live miles away from any decent ranges, and with working six days a week I don't get as much time as I would like to peruse what's on offer. If somebody could give me a few pointers of makes to look at that would take some of the initial guesswork out of the equation and I could go from there.
Or do I just stick with what I have?
Many thanks
Rob

I havent a clue, but I am in the process of buying new equipment, I get on well with my local American Golf which has a range attached to it. If you have something like that then just go and try every driver they have until you find one that suits you. They should be able to point you in the right direction, also your club pro should be able to help.

Hope you find what you want!

I have a Callaway X460 driver which I love but I don't like the fairway woods.

I brought MD EQL Superstrong with a proforce R shaft. I liked these because like yourself I wanted to have a nice amount of weight in the club head so you have the confidence to swing normally and not feel that you have to belt the ball.

I tried the cobra F speeds which were ok and also the TM R7s. The MD felt the best for me and are also GREAT! value for money!

Off your h/cap, look at Titleist, they are neat compact heads, not hugely easy to hit, but are really nice(that's what I have).

My only question is, why change?

I am not after out and out distance with my fairways, just consistency. If you already have this, what is the point of changing.

ditto the Titleist i have a 3 wood dont use it now find the shaft a bit weird but my mate has the same one diff shaft and its mint roll on the 909s

Having just bought a steelhead plus 5 wood, I can't see why anyone want want to look elsewhere.
Sweeter than most and certainly still in the bags of many serious players.

As murph says, who cares if they are getting old in the tooth if you hit them well?

Why change to move with technology advances when you don't like them and nothing sticks out that you fancy?

I'd say play with what you have and keep swinging the way you have come accustomed to, I wouldn't be changing my swing to suit a new set of woods.

Change for changes sake I guess??
As I say, I have had my woods for at least 5, maybe 6 years and they are beginning to look a little tired.
I intend to start playing a lot more next season and I guess after changing my irons and bag I've got an itchy "wallet finger" lol!!
Silly isn't it? I am so confident with them and I know that is 90% of the thing with golf gear....if you are confident with your clubs you will hit them well!
I guess between us we have talked me into keeping them a little longer. I guess I was just interested in knowing what else was out there.
Thanks for your responses guys
Rob

I got rid of my steelhead + 3 and 5 woods when I first got back into golf a couple of years ago as I wanted the forgiveness of a bigger sweetspot. Wish I had kept them because they went miles and a nice low flight. My only tip is to shop around on the internet and instore and see if any models catch your eye and then try and get a go with them on a range. My advice though would be to stick with them I know a lot of tour players still have them and if it is good enough for them why change. If they are looking tired, maybe see if a pro can do anything to help or maybe jsut get new grips on them so they feel newe in your hand.

If your still feeling flush I'm looking for a Taylor Made Burner Tour Launch 3 wood.

Thanks m8 lol.
