Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum and only started playing at the start of this year.

I am member of stratford oaks and I now want a handicap but do not the best way of going about this

Hello there and welcome to the forum. :)

If you're a member then it should be fairly straightforward; normally you'd need to put play three rounds with a member who will mark your card for each round (doesn't have to be the same member each round) and these three cards are then submitted for handicapping. The best of these is then used to calculate your starting handicap!

Ask somebody at the club and I'm sure that they'll help you out.

Welcome to the forum enjoy. I can't believe how some clubs don't pass on all this information about handicaps etc to new members.

You can enter club competitions but won't be able to win anything until your handicap is assigned.
Just inform your playing partners that you are playing to activate a handicap and they will mark your card for you.

At my club I had to put in 3 cards and from that they worked out my starting handicap, just did 3 rounds with existing members off the yellows.

How its worked out is explained here:

Not exactly the best link as they don't seem to know the (important) difference between gross and net scores and don't understand that the SI of a par 3 could mean that Stableford Adjustments do not always reduce a 6 on a par 3 to 5.
