Hi

I wonder if anyone can help, I am just getting into golf and will be having a few lessons in the coming weeks, I am just wondering if anybody knows of any good package deals on golf sets or any good websites I should be checking out?

Cheers

welcome to the forum and to the wonderful game of golf

Do you know who you are having your lessons with yet? If so and he is a local club pro you may be best asking if he can sell you a 2nd hand set that would suit you, rather than spending out on what would likely be a lower quality new package set. If the pro doesnt have any then there are plenty on ebay and people on here would happily advise which depending on budget.

To start with you dont really need a full set, you would be better spending more on the lessons and less on the clubs until you know you are going to stick with the game and you get to a basic standard.

Good luck and enjoy!

Your golf pro will be your new best friend. Dont rush out and buy clubs without his advise. I did and found out to my cost that as im very tall I needed longer clubs. MONEY WASTED.
watch out for ebay and web sites with very low prices. The market is rife with fake gear.

In my opinion, buy second hand now and brand new later down the line

There are some excellent sets out there, and wont cost you too much either.

I bought my set (Wilson Staff LCD full set, including bag) for £250 about 18 months ago and havent looked back. It's a great set of clubs, I couldnt recommend them highly enough.

You could do a lot worse than something like that. As the years go on, if you still like that game, you can start to replace the clubs that need replacing.

Welcome !! It depends how much you have to spend, but for me as your new to the game, maybe dont go for a package set, but get yourself a quality 2nd hand set of irons. I know golfbidder.co.uk isnt everyones cup of tea on here, but they are reasonably priced for older models.

Alternatively look at the sale sections of americangolf.co.uk, direct-golf.co.uk and onlinegolf.co.uk etc and you can get great deals on new drivers, irons and 3woods.

Get advice from your pro also as to what models to look at etc.

Have as many lessons as possible to begin with and leave 3-4 weeks in between each lesson so you have enough time to practice what you have learnt.

Youtube is fantastic. There is so much to learn and the best bloke I have found on Youtube is 'Mark Crossfield', he's brilliant and explains everything really well.

Welcome and enjoy mate!

At this moment in time, I can say I am lucky enough to have some spare cash and have £175 that I can spend on some clubs so I have found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ram-Golf-...lfClubs_JN&hash=item2c62eb130c#ht_4319wt_1139 would this be ideal for me or not? sorry to ask so many daft questions......
When starting out you do not need to spend a lot of money, my first 2 sets i bought the clubs individually for £6 each what about something to get you started like this ?

If you're that new to golf then I wouldn't worry about a set of clubs as such. I'd buy a seven iron (anything will do) and, using the lessons, find your swing.
It's going to take time and effort but eventually you'll have your swing.
Once you've got your swing then you'll be better placed to know what you want from a set of clubs.

Good luck and I wish you all the best.

Building on this, you can get an ex demo 6/7 iron from nearly any golf superstore for £5.

what you have to do is like most high h/c players on here, go to the pro shop and buy the newest most up to date clubs, drivers, woods, bag etc etc then the latest shoes, clothes don't take lessons then come back on in six months and complain that you cant break 100 and need new clubs or better still try e-bay or go and buy a second hand trade in set and if the bug doesn't bite your not wasting your money.

I would spend about £70 on a secondhand set of irons, also a cheap hybrid and a putter, steer clear of starter sets.also try and have at least 2weeks between lessons to work on what the pro has taught you.
You've definately done the right thing getting lessons from the outset.
Most of all just get out on the course and enjoy it.

Good luck!

try and find a small 9 hole course. possibly a par 3 course to start with. hacking your way round a full length 18 hole course could be a complete slog and you will more than likely hate it. everyone on the par 3 courses are just learners so you wont feel embarrised if you are hacking up the place or missing the ball altogether. when you feel ready you can reward yourself by graduating to a full round!

If I was in your position and starting out again, I'd get a decent half set of clubs and invest the majority in lessons. Get the foundations right to begin with makes it much easier later on when you get out on the course to play regularly. Welcome along too

I picked up a Cobra SZ 6 Iron in Ladies flex for a friend who is looking to start playing, this was in a 'clearance' bag near the till, maybe pick up something like this for yourself until you are ready to invest some more £££. ( I also got myself a Nike VR Forged Blade )

I have also seen second hand clubs in various American Golf stores, I think I saw a set of Callaway X22 5-PW for £99 - something like this would be ideal.

I would go for second hand Taylormade/Ping/Callaway Super GI Clubs rather than a brand new set.
