Hi everyone.
This is my 1st post.
At the age of 51, I have discovered the great game of golf!
I have joined a club & I am at the begining of a course of 6x lessons with a club pro.
The improvement already is immense.

I was truly awfull to begin with, I had a very bad slice off the Tee with a Driver & my Iron play was very poor to the extent that if I hit a good shot then I was supprised!

After only 1x lesson I now have the correct grip & my swing is getting there, I am now hitting the ball long & straight off the Tee with a Driver (most of the time) & I am more accurate & consistant with my Irons.

After my lessons, the next things on my list is lots of practice & to get 3x scorecards signed so that I can get my Handicap.

Loving it, what a fantastic game.

Welcome fellow newcomer!
Getting lessons from my clubs pro was the best money i ever spent, you could buy all the latest gear but without knowing about shot alignment or the correct grip you would be lost in this wonderful game
Good luck with the handicap

welcome to the forum and golf.

Just taken it up myself this year at 39 y/o and have well and truly got the bug. A word of warning, it can become an obsession ;)

Yes welcome both of you to the wonderful - and frustrating- but highly rewarding world of golf.

I play @ Filton Golf Club, Bristol.

I play just up the road in Thornbury, but know Filton very well. I used to play American Football down at the WISE Sports Academy.

If you ever fancy a knock at my place or yours just give me a shout.

Oh and welcome to the forum. :)

A word of warning Captain.... you may want to hang around the forum for a while and read a few of Aztec's post before making a decision :D

That's what I love about this game even after a short time playing it myself. It allows people of all ages to compete together like no other sport. I couldn't crunch my Granddad on a football pitch :D

Welcome to Hell.

And Heaven.

But mostly Hell.

Na just kidding, I can feel the enthusiasm and its great, got the bug myself last year after the Ryder Cup and when it bites its all-consuming.

Just found out I'm joining a new club tomorrow, taking a half day from work to go play golf for the afternoon at my new home, I'm so excited I'm not getting a bloody thing done :-)

Welcome to the forum, lots of A1 lads and lassies on here to learn from and banter with, get stuck in.

You’re just a youngster. I started to play about 3 years ago and been a member of a club for 2 years. I will be 60 in few weeks time. My biggest golfing regret is I didn’t take it up when I was younger.

Good luck with the lessons. You mentioned your driving, your swing and your irons, but no mention of your putter. Like all new golfers that was the last thing on my mind, as it seems to be with you.

The best advice I received was “work on your putting”. I was saying the same as you’re probably thinking; Yeah! Yeah! I will when I can do everything else. I now practice more with my putter than any other club, because we all use it more than any other club.

I read recently that kids should be taught from green to Tee and not the other way round. Now that makes sense to me

Welcome Capt Black, The Mysterons will be truely after you. You will have in time, a wide Spectrum of views, some good, some not so good of this wonderful game.

Although I had been playing for many years i only took the game up seriously a couple of years ago. And even now when I walk off after a poor round, I still walk off smiling.

I wish you much enjoyment.
