Evening All,

I posted some videos on youtube a couple of months back to see what you thought etc. Well with the comments that I got back I have decided to show you the results of the changes. My shot shape now is a slight draw, where as it was a fade/strong fade last time. Your thoughts would be appreciated :D

Sorry about the poor quality

Looks like Rory MciLroys action to me - good stuff.

Maybe a wee bit quick in the transition from backswing to downswing but looking good.

Love it! Good work fella. Super smooth and looking powerful, what you playing off? And how far you launching it?

That is a much better swing. You can really see the difference although I still think it is a tad quick tempo wise especially the transition back into the downswing. I'd like to see it a fraction shorter for more control but overall I think you have made huge improvements. Good effort.

Playing of 16, because I can't convert the drives into good scores, so I know what I need to work on, and I am but at the moment its temps on every hole so no medals etc to get cut in. My average drive is 260, and I can't wait till the summer as I feel so ready to burn up the course.

Thats a good swing there but for christ sake rotate your camera to work with u tube download, my neck is killing me watching you JC.

Stop expecting your drive to make your score, it helps, but its the rest that makes up the low scoring, if you think your driving is responsible then thats the wrong psychological attitude to have, your drive looks fine to me, work on the rest of your game.

I think that comes from the impetuosity of youth and knowing no fear. When I was playing at Wimbledon Common as a youngster there were 5 short par 4's (285-330) that I knew I could get on or very close to and would always try and drive them. At that time I'd rely on being able to hit the green with my second and two putt. It is only with experience that an iron and a full wedge is easier to control and get close than a fiddly chip from rough over mounds and hollows to a short sided pin.

My advice would be to tone down the agression off the tee and go for more control (a la Anthony Kim in his article in GM). It is great to bomb it out there and gives you an advantage on par 5's and longish par 4's but only if you are hitting from the short stuff.

Get your short game in order. That is where you will really make the scores and burn it up as you want. If you miss a fairway and have to lay up a short game from 100 yards in will let you make bogey at worse (and you get a shot on most holes) and maybe scramble a par.

Oh, to be that flexible again!!!! Grip it and rip it, simple swing; its a turn turn movement, not much that can go wrong, just dont over complicate things, always best to work with what you've got and the basics look solid.

Keep it simple. JuniorC do you work with your club pro or other coach on your swing or is it self taught. My advice should you start to progress (and with that swing there is no reason why that won't happen quickly) and something I regret not doing as I got better, is find a coach you trust who can look at your swing and work with you as you improve and as your body matures. That way if your game goes off (as it will) the changes will be quick to implement and you will trust it. I did a lot of my swing work alone or with my pro (also my boss as an assistant) and I never trusted myself and never always quite got what the pro was trying to get me to do. As a result I tinkered too much and lost my way

Keep what you have as it is very good, very athletic and very natural. Just get a pro's view and maybe a bit of professional advice on the short game. I see single figures in 2009

Homer,

I do some work with the pro, mostly on the driver as it used to be cronic slice :D. However I got a bundle of lessons for christmas so I will proberly use that for short game as that seems to be the problem.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

JC, If you're swinging like that off 16 then please don't enter the same comps as me!!!

I like what is on the video and it's good to hear that you are visiting you pro regularly, I'd 100% suggest that you stick with seeing him if you like what he is saying and doing.

It's always hard to tell from youtube vids but I would like to see a firmer left leg to hit against, it is still a bit "slidy" (is that a word?) but having a solid left leg to hit against will stop that and probably stop that cut.

Looking very nice, Weight transfere looks alot better although I would echo the comments above about a firmer left leg. Now you have a better swing with the driver in hand, dont be tempted to pull it out all over the show. Work on the green hitting and short game and the handicap will start tumbling.

I'm not sure about the slidy lefty leg. I was taught in the late 70's when it was the correct technique to slide it a la Jonny Miller and Howard Clarke and I've never been able to adopt to the way pros teach the swing now against a firm left side.

I would suggest it is probably the correct way to go and I'd have a chat with your pro and see what he says. Other than that get the short game in order and get your winners speech ready for this year as I can see you winning stuff.

Agree with comments previously posted, however, if you take your mouse and place it at(just outside) your left hip look just how far your body is moving (sliding) as you get through the ball. I'm not sure that this is what you want longterm. If you can stabilise the left side a bit more, you may well get a more powerfull strike on the ball.

Once again, echo the comment " oh to be that supple again" !

keep working on it.

It is a problem my retro action has caused for many years with my hips sliding out too early and the clubhead being pullesd through across the ball and setting up at best a high fade but sometimes a slice. I have to work very hard at keeping the hips "in the shot" through impact but I'm getting there. My new swing is coming together and I'll try and get something posted in due course

Swing looks good & smooth JC.

I'm intrigued by your clubs. Were you custum fitted for them?

I only ask as I was told that the driver should be the stiffest shaft in the bag, as it's the longest. Yet you have regular driver & rescue but stiff irons.

Yep, I was custom fitted for my irons but not driver or rescue. I have a lesson booked mid week so shall find out the reason. :D
