So, about four years ago I decide to get my Callaway X14s re-shafted on the advice of a pro I was playing with. Went to an establishment to get them re-shafted. Guy tells me that for not much more than the price of shafts I can have an entire set of custom fitted Snakeyes forged irons. This appeals as I am not normal size (6'5" & 19'stone) and it occurs to me that custom fit has to be a good idea.

I've struggled with these irons on and off for the four years since. But, they're custom fitted right? So it must be my swing. Over the winter I decide to really focus on my golf. Lots of lessons and practice. My pro agrees with me when I suggest buying some easier to hit irons. He books me into the Ping National Fitting Centre at my request.

I went there yesterday. What a great experience. Tried a number of different shafts and heads and went with the i20s, maroon dot (4.5' upright) with KBS Tour stiff shafts, 1 inch longer than standard. This was a great combination for me. In fact I also went for new woods and wedges. The only thing I didn't change was my putter!

Anyway, the fitter measures my current (custom fitted) irons out of curiosity. Completely standard length and lie! I feel gutted. Four years of play battling with equipment and I had no idea! I have been properly turned over. Can't believe it! Not sure I should name the place on here or not, but not happy.

Anyway, the Pings arrive next week. Can't wait! I can't recommend what they do there highly enough.

Name away, that is very poor indeed! Glad you like yer new bats, enjoy em mate! The first guy did actually fit them for you I take it,not just hand them over to you off the shelf?

Different custom fits can result in slightly different results because opinions vary and players change, but at 6'5" you would look like an obvious candidate for upright and lengthened clubs, and 4.5 degrees difference in lie is a lot.

Sounds like the original guy didn't do a fit at all. More likely than doing one and getting it so wrong and conveniently standard. I would let him know, if he is still in business. Let him know he (and everybody else) will soon be able to read all about it on GM Forums.

I'd be careful before making such allegations, 4 years is a long time in a clubs life and the lie's will certainly be affected. The length certainly wasn't done, but do you have your original spec in writing?

That's the thing Vega. I don't actually have anything in writing, so actually I don't have a leg to stand on. But I know they were supposed to be 'custom fitted'. But actually it was just hitting irons into a net with a strike board. I should have known better, but I just feel a bit let down. I'm not going to do anything about it - four years is too long to start complaining to him now.

Anyway, I can highly recommend the professional fitting experience with a trackman to give objective numbers to back up the 'feel' stuff. The project x shafts actually went a few years further but I didn't like the feel of them and their dispersion was wider, so went for the KBS.

From my experience Ping offer the best custom fit around. I'm sure you'll have no issues at all plus add in that the Ping Customer Service is also second to none I think you've made a wise choice.

Enjoy your bats.

What driver and fairways did you get?!?!?!?!?!

Tried pretty much everything but settled on G25 Driver (massive head!) 9.5', G25 15' 3 wood, and G25 20' hybrid. All with Ping Tour Stiff shafts. Driver was very forgiving. 3 wood was the best I've ever hit off the deck, and same applies to the hybrid.

Should be here by next Friday. Don't want to play in the mid week medal on Weds with my old sticks now!

Coincidence this thread, I have played Mizunos for a long time and my current set are around eight years old now and the faces looking very worn. I have been considering some new ones and was browsing around my clubs Pro shop that has just been rebuilt and got in a conversation with him over fitting and what he uses. He uses Ping i20's and after looking at them a bit more I am getting a liking, they seem a nice progressive set.

Anyhow, I am going for an evaluation with them next week on the monitor to see how they perform for me.
