Hi everyone,
I've been considering changing my irons to something more forgiving and saw that Nevada Bobs in Wilmslow had the new Mizuno MP-52's in their fitting cart. I love the look and feel of my MP-32's but my bad shot's just aren't cutting it.
Anyway I hit approx 20 shot's with each and I was very surprised with the results. I gained 10 yards in carry, 175 up to 185 yards with a 6 iron. Mainly due to the increase in launch angle. My bad shots though we noticeably better and felt a lot more solid.
Needless to say I took the plunge and will take delivery in 7-10 days :D

I know some people dont like Nike but the new Victory irons got a great write up and I watched Swartzal (sp) shoot 29 on the back 9 using them on saturday... was awesome.

Simon.

Guessing that you're a bit handy with the sticks then?

Had a look at the new MP52s this weekend myself. Sweet looking club. It has less offset than my MX19s and I asked my pro if that would help cure my hook. To my amazement he said that it would, but he can sort my hook out as it's easier to correct than a slice.

Now I know a) I can't afford the MP52s anyway, and, b) I'm not a good enough striker to get the best out of them. However it was quite refreshing to see a pro not going straight for the sale.

Needless to say, I'm starting to value his opinion, and will consult with him on any future club purchases.

ps. I always buy my balls from him, and will be looking for a little bit of individual advice in that direction too.

Anyway, good luck with the new sticks, I'm very envious.

Had a go with the TM Tour Burner driver at AG yesterday. Hit 20 balls and nailed 16 of them. Of the others one was a huge block, one a big slice (didn't complete my turn) and two were high hooks where I tried to leather it. HID was watching and was making positive noises about letting me have it but....... I put it back and vowed to keep the faith with my Cleveland (or failing that the subsitute Big Bertha waiting patiently on the bench). Who says Homer lacks willpower? ;)

Homer.

Your problem with your game, isn't in your ability. It's to do with the latest shiny must have.

We all know how good Mrs H is regarding your spending on the golf, (I should be so lucky). However I think that it's detrimental to your game.

You appear to be constantly trying new toys. It's no wonder that perhaps you've lost faith in the old faithfuls in the bag, when something new and shiny catches your eyes. Especially when HID won't complain at the cost.

Perhaps you need a wife like mine (bless her), that always has something to say about spending. That way you'd be happy with your sticks, and would try harder in making them work, rather than buying something else.

ps(the above is a little tongue in cheek!)

hapless,

to be fair my equipment (with the exception of the Rossa putter courtesy of GM) has been fairly stable for a while now. The problem I have had is the ability to swing like a drunken octopus on acid instead of a smooth graceful athlete and the fact that I have now lost the will to go out for fours hours knowing I'm likely to blow my handicap allowance inside nine holes.

I've tried practicing, not practicing, warming up or just taking a few swooshes on the tee. I have simply lost my golfing mojo. The driver was more of a "I wonder how it goes" thing as opposed to a possible purchase test.

I've got a lesson booked for Thursday week where I'm going back to my coach from last year (who got me from 20 to 13). He has moved to a range in Maidenhead which is only about 10 minutes longer journy wise than the one I travel to now (albeit in completely different directions). I went to try the range out on Saturday and quite enjoyed the set up. The range itself was basic but the balls are tip top condition as are the mats and it is clean and friendly. Because it is tucked away it doesn't attract kids or idiots just trying to hit the ball into oblivion and everyone there seemed to be there to work on their games.

I'm hoping this hew "home" will serve me well over the winter and that my re-association with my coach will provide the spark my game needs. I don't really have any inclination towards any new gear and will wait until the summer of 2009 (or until the manufacturers have demo days wtih 09 stock to try) before looking at any shiny toys.

I'm pretty sure Mrs H will begin to worry about my withdrawl symptoms if I'm not trying some new putter, irons or driver in the coming weeks so I may have to give the new pings. titleists, nikes, callways et al a bash just to see what they are like and stop the poor dear from worrying to much :D

Thanks haplesshacker. I have no will power when it comes to new golf equipment. HID doesn't know about my latest purchase, I think she'd string me up if she found out.

I sure am, the problem is I've got to go and pick them up sometime in the next week or two and it's not just a down the road trip. She doesn't see my clubs very often but she did notice last time I changed my driver.

Colinr,

I still use Downshire but have just started using Maidenhead Golf Centre on the right as you come into Maidenhead from Bracknell (next to the rugby club). The balls are top notch and the mats are good too. There is a small practice bunker outside and overall it is pretty clean and tidy. Because it is tucked away you tend not to get any kids or oiks just trying to smash everything or mucking about and being loud and off putting. Everyone seems to be there because they want to get on with improving their game. If you are thinking about Birds Hill you might want to spend the extra 10 minutes in the car and whizz down there and check it out
