Hi, introducing myself on here.
I played a couple of rounds of golf late last year which got me interested.
I got given a set of Petron blade style clubs which was a nice set but Very inconsistent in direction but would hit well 1/10 shots. So I Decided to get some Clubs, woods and driver of my own.
So managed to pick up some Ebay bargains. S9 driver 3 & 5 woods, King cobra 3100 i/h clubs.
And a 51' trusty rusty wedge. All have improved my game but still struggling off the Tee.
Going to try improve on this over winter at the range.
A mate at work took me out round Swinton golf course Sunday and i was very impressed.
I'm struggling for distance off the Tee, but not got a club to make it up on the fairway.
Was thinking of purchasing a fairway club or a 1 or 3 iron.
my weak clubs are my 3 wood and driver. So unsure if a fairway wood would suit me.

Anyway, glad to join the forum :)

hello welcome and enjoy. :)

maybe consider a couple of lessons too? ideal time is when justb starting out as that way bad habits dont get ingrained and hard to correct.
Fairway wood would be my preference over a 1 iron, " even god cant hit a 1 iron" .....

And keep an eye on the arrange a game section the NW has loads of meets.

A hybrid may be easier to hit than a fairway wood but agree with pbrown here a lesson or two at the very start is definitely a good investment, once those bad habits are in they're tough to get out and you end up just playing with them :)

Welcome along and don't get disheartened if mid way through December you don't feel like going to the range, plenty of time to improve when the weather picks up, we'll all be on here giving out about not playing and most likely buying clubs for the season ahead which is Definitely and ABSOLUTELY going to be the best ever :fore:

Forgot to mention I had an introduction lesson last year, Stance, grip swing etc
I still have a blade style 1 iron, did like using that, the challenge of hitting it straight and far was the fun part of the challenge.
I'm going to get a couple more lessons over winter, go back to Trafford AG centre.
Don't mind it there, staff are freindly enough.

Just need to see about getting couple of new clubs.
Try a few fairway woods, see which fits me.
And get hold of a Daddy long legs putter, tried a few last week and fell in love with it.

There you go your doing everything well right from
The start. Trafford centre AG is a good one and with the range attached ideal to test drive
anything you fancy. As long as you pick the red side!

Absolutely. Prepare to find yourself spending money on ebay as a substitute for playing golf. Buying clubs off ebay is like methadone to us. Not really an adequate replacement the real thing but it gives us a small buzz until we can get back on it.

Welcome along, get stuck in and enjoy the forum :) There's plenty of good advice, decent chat and even the odd game to be found. For what it's worth, I'd avoid a 1 iron for the time being and get a hybrid - much easier to hit.

There is a few courses around my area I want to get on and play, will be looking next year at joining one. Werneth low is one course that looks like a challenge. Fairly hilky and blind holes for the added thrill.

Welcome along. I'm off to Epsom on Sunday with a mate who's just taken the game up. He's had lessons and this is the first real time out on a proper course. Looking forward to a course I've not played in years and hope I can help him a bit and that he really enjoys the first time out as a real golfer

I enjoyed Swinton golf club last Sunday.
Long fairways, trying to pursade my mate to play there along with giving tips
More regularly. I changed from Ad333 to the Srixon Distance balls, think that helped my slice somewhat.

Please let us know what Epsom was like.

I could loan you a Ram hybrid to have a try with, even for a month or so if you like.

It's only gathering dust in the shed. Liverpool area though.

I'm in a similar position to you and I've all but abandoned the Driver (for the moment, still trying to use it at the driving range) and I'm getting more consistant results from my Nike Hybrid off the tee-box. I also use the Hybrid on the fairway as it's a very easy club to use. In fact on Monday I only used 2 clubs, my Hybrid and my 7 iron. Along with an approach wedge. That was it.

For the long 4 & 5 holes I mainly used my 5 iron (lowest iron) on the fairways and me trusty wedge.
Barely touched my driver as I get less distance than I do with my 3 or 5 wood. I'm won't be too disheartened if I can't come to grips with it this winter. Just want to be more comfortable with my 3 & 5 wood off the tee. I occasionally top or duff the ball off the Tee.

Not sure why as at the range I'm fine.

At the range you're always aligned properly. Well, visually anyway. It can be more difficult than you think to set up square (and by that I don't just meet feet) and with the ball inside your left heel when you're on a tee box with no parallel lines around. If you're topping it could be any number of things, or you could just be playing the ball too far forward (in relation to where it is on the range, where you probably have a good visual aid of where it is in relation to your feet). Just a thought - might be way off!
