Was fed up trying to hit my 913 D3 and being really inconsistent off the tee and being totally unable to hit my 913F 3 wood off the tee which has always been a strong shot off the tee for me, but not with this 3 wood.

So a trip to my local golf shop tonight for a driver test and for the first time ever, I didn't decide what driver I wanted before I got there.

Spoke to the pro, explained the issues I was having, what I was looking for from a driver, asked his advice and he gave me several to try:

- TaylorMade RBZ Stage 2 (one of my choices that I wanted to hit)
- Cobra AMP Cell
- Ping G25

TaylorMade RBZ Stage 2 wasn't for me, was going the same as my current driver. Next was the Cobra AMP Cell. I didn't like how it felt or sounded but it was launching much higher and straighter off the tee than my D3. Finally I tried the Ping G25.

My 913 D3 was a 9.5 loft but after hitting a 10.5 loft G25 he told me to carry on and he went to get another club. The 10.5 was going very straight and I quite liked how it felt. He returned with another G25, this time a 12 loft. I hit that really well and it was flying long and straight, much MUCH better than the results I was getting with the Titleist.

So after another basket of balls, I traded in my Titleists and I now have a 12 degree G25 driver, an 18 degree 5 wood for off the tee and the deck and a 23 degree hybrid to replace my 913H hybrid.

I really like the driver but have a sneaky suspicion that the 5 wood will be the star of the show. Very straight, plenty of height and VERY long, longer than I've been hitting my 913 D3 driver.

A happy camper tonight and in at the deep end on Saturday with a medal to play. Fingers crossed!! :)

Can't believe you typed all that and didn't upload any pics!!!!

Sounds like a fun time testing! Fingers crossed the good shots continue!!!

Good luck! I made a list of the holes where i don't need to use my driver, that way I can use the best and easiest club. Your 5 wood will get you on the fairway accurately so really look to maximise the benefit.

I like my 5 wood I think they're a very forgotten club

Very useful in a lot of situations, mines much the same as your finding, decent off the tee or deck and I can even hit it out of the rough

I guess you spent a lot of money on that 913 kit, it was brave to be honest and go back and make these changes, nice one.

A good read and best of luck with the new toys!

Edit: oh ye, it's pics or it never happened...:whoo:

Yeah, quite a few quid on the Titleist kit. Not bright enough not to buy them in the first place but bright enough to face the fact I couldn't hit them so time to move on.

Hopefully I can start getting some confidence back off the tee and on long 2nd shots from the fairway and see if I can get a few decent scores and maybe even my first cut of the season before the comps dry up. Fingers crossed!!
