Hi folks.
I have being having a look around the forum for a few months and decided to take the plunge and sign up.
I took up golf about 11 months ago and while I used to watch the majors on TV for years since I started playing I am totally hooked. I don't get to play a whole lot. Maybe 2 rounds a month if I am lucky. I pay and play around the Cambridge area. So far I have played Cambridge Meridian,Cromwell(Abbotsley) Menzies in Barhill and mostly Wyboston Lakes. My best round was a 94 last month at Wybo.
Not got an offical handicap as yet but according to an online tracker it's 28. I have played I think in total maybe 20 rounds and my 3 best score have been 2x100 and the 94.
Anyway...just wanted to say hello...and hope to join in with the topics.

James.

Welcome, get a h/cap and get it down to max 18, no-one should get more than 1 stroke per hole.

How's your putting? :)

Poorest part of game to be honest. It's gettin better as I have practiced alot on short game around the green so getting closer to hole. Plenty of 3 putts but hope to get rid of these by slowing down a bit when on the green. Marking ball and taking my time over the putt. Last few rounds I had more 2 putts then 3 so getting better.

That is certainly my aim.
I played 9 holes with 2 of my bosses 2 weeks ago at Wyboston.
I hit par par bogey bogey on first 4 holes. 6,8,7 on next 3 and finished on bogey par. So I know it's there.

How do,

I'm fairly new in the forums here myself and like your self only really started playing again this year after many years away and like yourself I'm totally hooked once again.

They're a friendly bunch in here ;) with plenty of good advice and banter.

cheers
Dave

welcome to the forum
I'm a member at Wyboston so if you need a member to sign your handicap cards you know where to come.
Played the Cromwell, not overly impressed - Abbotsley proper is much better, never played the Meridian nor Barhill though.

Thank you.
After playing the courses I have played in the area I have to rate Wybo the best overall. Greens at Barhill are excellent but Wybo not too far behind. But I love the layout of Wybo which I think for the green-fee you will not find a better course for miles around. I love the 3rd 5th and 14th holes but hate the 6th. I never learn and always use Driver and end up in the bunker before the green.

Welcome to the forum. There is alot of useful info on here and some very wise heads.

I'm based in Cambridge so have done many a track around. I like the Meridian and Wybo, haven't played bar hill yet tho pass it everyday on the way to work!!

the bunker on the 6th is reachable with a 3-wood, so no escape there - it's duffing it out of the bunker into the pond that gets to me, and they do love putting the pin tight to the pond.
3rd can be a lottery, short but no escape - too easy to bounce over into the lake with a bit of wind.
I like to draw a long iron round the corner on 12, satisfying if you get it right - expensive if you don't.

I don't carry a 3 wood so next time on 6 I am gonna take my 3 or 4 hybird and aim for left of the fairway as yes I normally end up in the lake from bunker.

I usually use a 9 on the 3rd when there is no wind and it works. (I am not a huge hitter) around 145/150 with 7 iron.

Depending on where the tee is on the 12th I use my natural slice with the driver and hit it across the corner of the lake and onto the fairway leaving an 8 iron to green.

Barhill is pretty expensive £32 weekday and £40 weekends but take 2fore1 7 days a week. Good course for that money.
