Had some evening eBaying the other day and got myself a bargain Mizuno JPX EZ driver and wow can it give it a whack. I've been using a handmedown Titleist 975D recently so the first thing I notice is just how much bigger the new club is.
Unfortunately it arrived Saturday morning so even with a few warmups in the nets, the first shot I hit with it was on the first tee. On the second, par 5 I was second up. Group on the fairway looked far enough away. First guy tee'd off, all fine. I went and absolutely creamed it, reaching the group in front with legs to spare. Certainly the tech has moved on since the late 90s. Hands up apology on the tee and I walked over to apologise at the next opportunity which was accepted with surprising decency. Gave them plenty of room for the rest of the round.
To get some revenge, the golfing gods gave me 2 OOBs + a lost on the 7th for 7 off the tee and a 12.
Despite that I'm loving the new club. Hopefully it'll be friendlier next time out.
