Am opening myself to ridicule but .... have I made a mistake with my new irons?

Had the choice between XR Steelhead and ApexCF16 - chose the Apex for longer term handicap improving benefits

but ...... after every range session I think 'what if'

at night I go to bed and think 'would the XRSH' have been a better choice

is the simple fact I am thinking about this an indicator of the answer?

How good a player are you?

The cf16 are a great club and offer a fair bit of help in a pleasing-to-the-eye way. Would something big, fat and chunky really help you score better??

Have you been to the range with the new clubs. How are you hitting them? What makes you think you've made a mistake? Is your striking worse with them and are you losing distance. If you really aren't happy the AG deal may ease the pain but if you are hitting them ok, keep the faith, trust yourself with them and get out on the course and play well with them

The AG deal won't help! They cost £670 and I will get nowhere near that in trade in - plus they are custom fit 1/2" longer and 2up

i can't get the 'what if' out of my head but thinks it's just me - I am not worried about distance - it's confidence for me

What made you choose these over the others other than you thought they would serve you longer as your handicap progresses. I would say stick with that thought and trust yourself.

My heart agrees with you 100%

i have been out of golf for 15 years and know that my handicap will tumble this year - my pro and I thought that if I buy the XR Steelheads that I could be looking for anew set in six months - ApexCF16 was a longer term view

now I read about the xr steelhead pro ......

There will always be new clubs coming out. I was hankering after a set of Ping I irons and now they have the I200 out so had I upgraded from my I25 to the I's I'd now be hankering the I200. It's just the nature of the market. If your pro thinks these will do the job, trust him and your judgement

I never understand this theory
Why do people pigeon hole themself or think a certain handicap number player should play X clubs, and another Y clubs.....??

Buy what works best regardless of handicap, and even if you get to scratch doesn't mean you automatically have to rush out and buy a set of blades....!!

If you still have doubts now, you need to get rid, bite the bullet, get the wallet out, buy the other set

Are the steelheads like last year's XR's i.e. Rocket launchers?

If so you're better off with the Apex imo if you don't struggle for distance.

I see your point, especially about pigeon holing, but the OP has been fitted and even the pro thinks the set he has will be fine. It sounds like buyer remorse (we've all been there) but if I was the OP I'd stick with them.

I dont get it. When ever you buy anything, there was a choice, be it lunch, a car, a house, a beer down the pub. You make a decision, and that was the best decision at the time, given the criteria you chose to make judgement on. Now, with no conflicting evidence, you have decided that maybe the choice was wrong.

They are just golf clubs. Given you could probably play exactly the same golf with anything from shovels to blades, it really wont make any difference.

No mistake. Trust yourself.

What did you hit before? If you do feel insecure with the Apex for example in the longer irons, you could still mix them up with your old set until they are more familiar to you. But I really think it is just in your head. You got fitted for the new clubs, they worked for you, so why would you give it second thoughts?

I think you (and the others) are spot on

Had M2 before and it was ridiculous - hit a hot spot and 7 iron was going 185 yds - stupid stupid stupid

XR SH were about 160 but could range 145 to 170 on slight off hits

Apex were 150 over and over again with consistency

I know .... I know the right answer .... just need to get it into my head and STOP looking at other items .... its not like football boots where you can just swap and change

Thanks all for the advice
