Hi
thought i'd introduce myself and get a query in straight away!

as you can see my irons are outdated, though still in a decent condition. Im looking at getting more shots of my handicap this year and am thinking of replacing my irons...so two questions, should i get new ones, and if so any recomendations?

i'd appreciate any input, cheers

PIck what you like visually and get custom fitted.

Personally you cant get better than mizuno.

Tough call. I guess it depends how well you hit your old ones (off 12 I'd say pretty well), what sort of budget you have and what sort of club you're interested in. You could go down the C/F route especially as you must be close to the Belfry or why not wait a bit until the demo days start and wander around and try the 2010 models. As a final alternative you can always wander to a range or pro shop and try some. I always find it better to see the results rather than relying on a monitor in a shop bay.

Hi both

These clubs are ten years old, purchased when i hardly ever played. For the last 18 months I've played more seriously and have come down by about 8. Im getting there... but was thinking that new irons, with better specs, would help a bit more?

I'd say I hit them about average.! The Belfry isnt far Homer, i guess a custom fit and a try out on the range there is probably my best move. or, see this season through and take it from there, maybe get new ones at the start of the off season rather than the start of the actual season. I might squeeze a bit more of an improvement out with these yet. Thinking out loud now!!

Having browsed online, i'm liking the mizuno and titleist ranges so i'm sure i'd go for one of those, probably not blades though.

Dont listen to Andy. Ping are the only way to improve. Best custom fit specialists out there bar none!

Join the PING4LIFE campaign, our fairways are greener over here. Just like the words of a very very famous song, you can check out any time but you can never leave!

Concur with the custom fit option. Best to go an independent and try a few different makes, models, shaft etc and go for the combination that feels the best.

Go to a Mizuno fitting centre, and try out all the lovely shiney new bats. I have a similar handicap and ended up with made to measure mp52's

If you can't afford new and want to make sure you get clubs that will work for you I would suggest a few lessons with a PGA pro. During the lessons ask the pro what clubs he thinks would suit your swing as it is and that will help your game to develop. Most are really decent people and will not just try to sell you what they have in the shop although they do often have secondhand sets available.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Think i need to find out where some of the local fitting centres are and try and book something in!
