Hi guys

Just been advised that my grips are far too small for me. I have standard TM grips but gurt big hands (XL gloves). Three questions:

1. some online tools suggest that I actually need standard grips with 3 or 4 layers of tape rather than midsize grips. That sounds a bit heath-robinson to me and my pro said midsize (but only by looking at my grip, not measuing anything).

2. should i be regripping everything? Naturally, plan to do my irons, driver, #3, #5 and hybrid, but what about my wedges?

3. any recommendations for suitable grips? Price not too much of a concern.

Any thoughts?

I wear a ML glove so only need the 1 layer of tape.

Lampkin have an online fitting tool that, after you input your measurements, spits out you're requirement.

For me it was 3 layers, but it felt like a cricket bat so reduced back to one layer, which I prefer.

I have Lampkin Crossline grips on my R7 irons, they are really nice. I have Golf Pride New Decade MC on my MP-32's which, again, are very nice.

Get down and see your pro. He should have a selection to choose from.

Thanks for that, just checked out their website and they say I'm a standard with 2 layers of tape! Hand length 7 and 7/8inches, longest finger 3 1/2inches.

Might give me more choice than midsize grips - I was getting concerned!

Personally use mid size multi compounds and love them, but most who grip one of my clubs cant believe how thick they are.

For me I would get one club regripped in your choice first and do a couple of short range sessions with it to make sure it feels right, then get the whole bag regripped the same (last time I changed I had one regripped normal grip + 4 layers and the other with the midsize and chose between them)

If your clubs feel comfortable in your hands and you are hitting the shape of shot that you want, don't change your grips. Just because someone/something says they are the wrong size doesn't necessarily mean they are.

On that chart I am standard plus 2 layers. I actually use standard plus 3 layers, which I was c/f for by Titleist, using Lamkin crossline grips.

I assume your hands are quite wide, because they don't strike me as being that long?

Yup, not long, just BIG and strong! It surprises people when they hear that I drive a desk for a living - growing up on a farm has left its mark though!

I've always felt that I have to grip quite hard to keep control over the club head - hence why I asked my pro about this in the first place. I am hitting the shots I want reasonably well (there is scope for improvement in my technique overall, but I'm learning quickly) but I do sometimes feel that the club has "slipped" (rotated, to be precise), normally with my longer irons - which are my real weakness at the moment.

That sounds more like a problem with the compound of your grips rather than size. Try giving them a good scrub with a small nail brush and warm soapy water to restore some of the tackiness. And also, don't forget that you should be gripping the club in your fingers, not the palms of your hands.

For me you should have every club (bar the putter) gripped identically, not sure why thinner grips is more feel, surely its just a mis-fitting grip for you

Yes agree....everything the same!
