Hi ALL
Just thought Id start a Post to try Plug a New Golf Competition, in its 1st year, in Newcastle/Northumberland

http://www.euro-hostels.co.uk/whats-on/2476_the-geordie-classic

I am NOT associated with ANY of the organising of this event, just that the last day is being held at my Old Club, and my Mate has the shop there, and just thought I could maybe try plug it on the Forum, see if anybody interested...........???

I don't as yet have any further details, except the Brief outline on the above Link, but Im sure if you were to email or telephone a secretary at any of the 4 Clubs involved, they will probably enlighten you further

I DO know that my friend at Newcastle United G.C. is heavily involved, Tel 0191 2869998 ( ext 2 ) Liam McNulty, in the Shop, aswell as the secretary Peter Jobe Tel 0191 2869998 ( ext 4 ) or email -- info@newcastleunitedgolfclub.co.uk

Their Plan is to make this an Annual Event, and as stated, this is its 1st year

Sure to be a good week, good courses, and plenty nightlife......happy days.....

I believe that would be 'Optional'..........But there are Always some 'almost' bare chested ladies kicking around on a night out in Newcastle............Don't sell many Coats up here, tough lot these northern lasses......:D

Any prices on this? not overly interested tbh as have played the courses and aren't the best in the area (definitely not the worst though) out of interest what's your new course or are you a golfing nomad?

The Price I believe is £120 for the weeks golf , entry
All details still to be finalised, should be anytime now, and once sorted, I believe a website may be set-up

My New Club......??
I joined Westerhope Last Year
I wanted to get my Son ( now 12 ) more involved, or rather he wanted to get more into it, they have a Better, and bigger Junior set-up than my old club, and its been a great move, he Loved it last year.
He Played loads during school hols, recieved coaching, some free, and I paid for lessons too, there were 2 comps per week for the kids during summer, and the club even installed Blue - Forward tees to make the game more enjoyable/accessable for the novices and under 13's
He has also made friends with loadsa new juniors, and they even phone/text each other to organise their own games, so I was real chuffed for him

I knew a few lads already playing there, so i would never struggle for a Game, and Ive met many new friends since
Its actually closer to my Home than my old club too
Winners all round............

Where do u play.........??

Fair price I'd say, hope it takes off.

Play at Boldon, sounds a great junior set-up at your track ours is pretty good but doesn't appear to be on a par with yours. Talking today about the fees as they're due in April and some people in my squad think it's be better being a nomad playing different courses and joining a society or the like to keep the the handicap up. Only down side for me is playing midweek golf with my lad... anyhow, never played Westerhope so may get in touch when the weather improves for a knock :D

Ive played boldon twice, both times greens were very good
But the last time was summer 2010, in a texas scramble, and there was a 45mins wait on the tee at the 5th hole, driveable downhill, and was downwind, it was abit of a nightmare hold-up......
You would think players would have marked on green, stood to side, and waved next group to tee off, but it didn't happen

By the way, you can't " Keep the Handicap up " by playing society golf
You can ONLY have an Official Handicap being a member of a Golf Club

Yeah, with regard to the handicap we thought that but one of the lads thought/adamant you could as he'd seen something written about it and was going to hunt it out.

The 1st 5 holes can be a real nightmare, there's differing views on how to play the 5th but you're correct that's how it should be played and used to be a sign telling you how to do it on the tee box but is pretty small and easily missed to be fair.

Greens suffered last year due to 'snow mould' whilst another had too much fertiliser put on but as it was due to rain nothing was done... it didn't rain and the green was ruined. It's things like these going on at the club where the membership think their money would be better spent elsewhere...

Slightly off topic I know, but saw your comment about keeping your handicap as a Nomadic golfer. I'm moving back up to the area from Essex and I've just taken up the De Vere points membership for £295 and that makes me a member of Slaley Hall!! I've joined my son for £99 (14months!). Its a full membership - club comps, bar/food discounts, etc but importantly - OFFICIAL HANDICAP. The Hunting course there is great and the Priestman is also a top course. They have a tariff in terms of how many points you need to play their courses but at the moment I pay £1500 per year at my current club in Essex so I will still save a lot of money and play top courses into the bargain.

My brother in law plays there as well, and have been fortunate to play a couple of times a year for the last 15 years or so. Great bunch of guys that play together and always meet up after thir roun up in the lounge to record scores. When do you normally play, you may know some of them ??
