Hey all,

Moving house in January and started the process with two club in the local vicinity.

Club 1: a Harry colt course ranked decent in Surrey and about 250 metres from said new house. Fees are about average for the area (1500 a year) club is a members club and good for gatherings and a pint after a round or even pop over for a pint to watch the football or Sunday lunch. Course on chalk so drains super so all year round play. Could keep current county membership at Blackmoor if joined her too.

Club 2: about a 8-10min drive but it's one of the best courses in the country. Two 18 hole layouts, once in a lifetime opportunity to join a club like this. Reciprocals to two other stunning courses in top 20 in England. Members club but more old hat, not sure it'd be the most social after golf or even roll ups. Fees about 30% more a year but still reasonable for the course.

Advice welcome please....

Chatted to a few chaps on here and interesting views on both!

Cheers

Hi mate. ( thought you were away :D )

You already know my view

Think you have an opportunity that you will regret if you don't take it up

Fully understand the dilemma though mate

Either way you won't be disappointed but for me I would go for option A and then later in life maybe look for a course nearer to home

Take the once in a life time. You might not get another life time. As I've recently found out you need a good membership to be able to really enjoy it. You'll know which one suits the type of golf you want.

I suppose if you want a home from home, a club that you can feel a part of with a decent course attached then its club 1.

If it's purely about the golf and lots of people wanting to be your friend then its club 2

Personally, if club 2 had a friendly bar/clubhouse, a decent Comp' calendar with busy comps, and members who were there for the good golf on offer and not just the bag tag then I'd go for club 2.

I'd ask for a tester for both, you might find that the preconceptions you have are incorrect. Plus you'd be able to play on both for a bit and see which one you love more.

I think you need to consider how often you are going to play Craig. If not that often, more likely to get to know members at the club across the road, as you will be able to use it socially as well. You can take the family over for lunch, a few drinks etc. May not be so easy to get to know members at the one further away, if you are only going up for infrequent games.

Don't worry about the forum member at the club across the road. He is not that bad really.;)

The other huge advantage of option 1 is you get to play with me at Blackmoor.:whoo: Surprised previous posters have not picked up on that.

I think it does boil down to how much golf you will play. If you are going to play loads, then I would go for Option 2. 2 courses, so plenty of choice if you want a knock. How about practice facilities? How do they stack up against each other?

It does seem silly not to give 'one of the best courses in the country' a go at membership. You'd probably find the membership are just fine!

Assuming you can afford either, then life is too short, so my gut reaction would be option 2 (assuming that the new course will still fit in with your social aspect of golf etc and the membership is friendly.)

Go with Sunningdale?

Or is it Walton Heath?

Or the Berkshire.....:)

Haha liver birdie you know so much! It's one of them and the reciprocals are the other two!
I've played both courses, the first whilst good doesn't hold a candle to the second.
Joining fees are one times yearly for the first and 2 times for the second.
Both have good facilities but if I want to get my golf better I've been told option B is where to do it as they have more serious members.
As you've probably guessed it's Cuddington and WH...
Has that changed anyone's view?

Which one has the best sprung floor for the social occasions?;)

Craig,

are you you trying to match fish with the most amount of clubs joined in 3 years

Haha not quite. Definitely love my Blackmoor, wouldn't want to let that go.
I've not checked out the spring floor capabilities in either to be honest, that could just be what sways it in the end (no pun intended!)
