Hey All
Ive had my Nike SQ for about 2 years now, when i bought it, i got it from American Golf and it was to replace my Ping G5 regular shaft, the Guy said my swing speed was way to fast for a regular shaft. so i tried the new titleist ( new at the time) taylor made, the G10 (which had just come out) and maybe one or two others, anyway, the Nike SQ was by far the best club for me so i bought it. anyhow, 2 years on and i had a bit of a bonus from work, i thought i would go to American Golf and get fitted for a new driver as there have been lots of new models and designs since my last driver.Anyhoow, to cut a long story short i tried about 5 different Makes of driver with lots of new technology and not one of them impressed me anywhere near enough to part with £200 - £300. i kept hitting my own driver in between clubs and not one of them was as long or any more accurate. It just made me think, i wonder, dispite all the new colours, shapes and sizes since i bought my SQ have any of them really improved what a driver can actually do or are all the new shapes just another ploy to make us spend our hard earned?
When i got my SQ i remembered the pro telling me that it was all about the quality of the shaft and that if i put the Diamana shaft that is in my SQ in any of the other Drivers i tried then the chances are they would have performed in a similair way.
Just a footnote, the guys that i encountered both times at American golf were really helpfull, and did all they could to help me.

There are lots of posts already on the forum explaining the benefits of 'Shaft Fitting', and that the shaft is perhaps way more important than the head.

However, I dont think any fitting in an indoor net can be anywhere near as trusted as a fitting at an outdoor range, you just cant see the true flight or distance.

Having been to Titleist for my fitting, I would simply never buy a Driver ever again without doing the same again, either Titleist or Ping, or wherever.

Hey Chris, i hit them on the range not into a net. at the Titleist fitting centre, is there lots of shaft options? Do they fit you with different makes that arent what you would find in American or Direct Golf? sorry, im quite new to this

I couldn’t really get my Yonex custom fitted as the shaft is made for the head and the grip made for the shaft, the only thing you could change is the loft and flex.

I wouldn’t mind though getting fitted for the Cobra L5V, but some of them shafts add up to £120 on top of the original price taking a driver over the £320 mark and its not something I could justify in my game and to HIDs.

I know a young guy at my course who uses a wooden driver and smashed it over 340 yards, technology doesn’t seem to bother him. Why change when something is working?

Chips - That's AG for you!! Stick that Diamana in 20 different heads and you will get 20 different results.

Chips: My bad, I assumed it was an indoor net with launch monitor as my local AG have.

At the Titleist centre, they only have the 909 Heads with loads of Shaft options, and all are interchangeable with their special fixings for Custom fit etc.

I think at Ping, they simply have loads of G10's with different shafts etc.

Or, perhaps others might know of somewhere they carry lots of different makes/specs to help you find something that suits.

The Belfry's National Golfing Academy carry loads of brands, models, etc
They record your stats and advise based on those.
They don't push you towards the most expensive clubs, just those that are best suited.
It's hitting into a range from bays seperated off from the general public.
I've used it a few times and recommend it!

I'm going there on Monday for a driver fitting so I will report back on the service etc.
Driver fitting is definitely something you should take advantage of, I recently had a ball fitting which was also very useful. The fitter commented on my driver not having enough loft and the shaft not being stiff enough. Which meant I was hitting low launching shots with lots of spin that were robbing me of distance (approx 15 yards of carry plus some extra roll).
As everyone else will say it's a no brainer. It's free (if you buy a club) and the distance/dispersion benefits can be significant.

I know it sounds silly but I did gain 5 yards by moving from a Pro V1 to the Pro V1x due to it spinning less. There was a challenge tour pro who did the same thing a week earlier and he gained 10 yards by doing the same thing. I was getting around 500rpm less backspin with the driver which is a lot.
