Am going to head down to the range to hit a few drivers and make a decision from there.

As much as I was getting on with the 454 comp it wasn't cutting it as much as I would have liked on off-centre strikes so it has departed my bag.

I am looking at the X-Speed cobra & Callaway Big Bertha at the moment. I don't want to spend more than £200 (wife will murder me as just bought a car!) and don't want a square jobbie.

Any suggestions & comments on why you would reccommend welcome & appreciated from you, thanks in adavnce.

Titleist 907 D1 or D2 are nice, jon. Also Ping G10 meant to be good.

Have you looked at any of the GM Gear Vault vids ? They're reviewing new drivers all the time.

If you're thinking on the Callaway Jon I would wait of for a bit; I think there is a new one coming out at the end of Feb to replace the Big Bertha.

Slightly of topic but funny timing, I was up at my course for a quick nine holes on the wee course this morning and then popped into the pro shop as I'm thinking of getting a new driver and irons, and there in the corner was the Callaway Optifit; anyone tried it?

Saw one yesterday for £199, jon, hence the suggestion. Sure you'd find one for that price with a little searching. Noticed it cos' mine cost £249 in May.

ps - caved in big time on the no drinking in January last night - three crap days at work on the bounce did for me. In the dog house today as been next to no use. Off to the range to get in some much needed practice ahead of the GM challenge match on Friday

To be honest mate, I still can't see how anybody can look past the taylormade r7, you can pick this up for as little as £120 now and it really is an excellent driver. Fitting options are good aswell, should you request this service :p

I know you'll all have a giraffe at me, but don't go anywhere with your cash until you have tried the Macgregor NVG2. 360 cup face, fujikura shafts, both my pro and some geezer of 2.5 he played with took one off the Macgregor rep (i know, hard to believe they exist, given the elusive nature of their products.....snainton do sell online) and played round some bast**d-links-of-death course with it and could do no wrong. Hard to believe......but no BS.

Personaly, I'd keep well away from the shop until the spring comes back and you'll feel better overall.

FT-3 forever! but being sorely tempted by the NVG2.

PS - ON A DIFFERENT TACK....

Is anyone using the R7 draw T/M rescue?......seems to be the only combo of light shaft and swing weight I can find. My pro only has burners, fli-hi and halo....all about the same as my MD (though going far less right!!! :))

I have seen that cobra do a custom lite version for there baffler, theres a couple at my club, i saw a couple in gran caneria, so just have a look around at a couple of sites.

I have had the priveledge to hit the rescue (one of my friends has one), was a very nice feeling club and very nice to hit but he had the heavy weights in the bottom so it didnt suit my swing.

Would recommend G10, prices are around £190, nice looking club and sounds good too.
I have found that it has straightened up my driving, could be because I got custom fitted by my pro

G10 or srixon sit lovely.
I have the Srixon W-506, as Craw says it sits perfectly behind the ball, I've never seem this with any other driver, they usually fall open or closed. Quite impressed with this one, it's going quite long at the moment.
