New Driver or not?

Been mulling this over for a while now. I currently use a Wilson Firestick which came as part of a starter set that i bought to get me back into golf. I do hit a good drive usually around the 250 mark, my question is will a new driver benefit me greater interms of accuracy and possibly distance (altho this isn`t really an issue)? Or should i stick with the cheap Wilson that currently use. I know that in starter sets such as mine the money is saved in the quality of the woods / driver hence the thought of buying a new one.

If it's working, and you are hitting fairways regularly at 250 yards, why the hell do you want to change it? Surely there must be another part of your game that needs attention and finance?

Be tempted by something that'll improve the other parts of your game.
Some decent wedges will sharpen up your short game and cut more shots from your handicap than a new driver that might give you 5 yards extra.
If you hit a reasonably good driver then stick with it.

Oh believe me there are plenty of areas in my game that need work but i had noticed that AG have got the Tour Burner Driver on offer for around £120 and felt a little tempted.

Sound advice, i guess its a case of wanting something new and shiny and buying a driver is far more exciting than a decent wedge. Eventhough the wedge as has been stated would shave a few shots of the round if im honest.

There's one way to find out.

On your next social round ask the pro at your course to tape a driver up for you to try. An easy way to rule in or out.

Of course you could also go the custom fit route, if you have the time and money.

Is your driver 460cc? Is it forgiving on off-centre hits? Does it have a quality shaft?

I'd be tempted to go and try a few at a range and see how you feel.

I used to play a 250cc Callaway and do not regret moving up to big-headed drivers. The shaft is very important, buy the wrong one and you'd be wasting your money if you are doing well with yours as it is.

Then again, you might find another 25 yards and better accuracy.
