Must say when I first heard they were doing a remake I. Was a bit gutted. Why mess with a classic.

however, my lads just sent me a You tube link and it looks quite good.

Good looking cast for the film, hope they don't mess it up.

I recently watched the first series [black and white] which I seemed to have missed somehow.
The acting and sets were a bit ropey but still very funny.

Yep seen the trailer and looks pretty good - got some good people in the cast

Hope its slapstick comedy at its best, ala carry on, on the buses etc

mentioning on the buses, sorry to hear "Blakey" passed away today.

The main cast were so strongly cast, and so well known, that it'd be difficult for the new cast to act their character 'out of type' without it becoming a different character. So I'm imagining that character-wise they'll be as we know them. What the script will be like is who knows - but again as the characters are so strong and very well known to the actors they could almost ad lib the script and it'd work.

It won't.
It will give them the wrong idea.
They will think that the original series was crap too.

for someone younger than 30 (me) , it is seriously dated. however, I appreciate it and really enjoy it. But comedy is in a completely different place now.

Our two boys are 18 years old. Both of them absolutely love Dads Army, it's one of the few things they will actually sit down to watch when it comes on.
I doubt whether the new film will even raise a smile.
In fact, I'd put money on it

Listening to the clip on you tube where captain Mannering is talking about the German coded message "saying der spun king den spun ken" certainly had me giggling.

It is supposed to be dated, it is set in the 2nd World War.:p Something like Not the 9 O'clock News is dated, though still funny.

The original Dads Army film was not as good as the TV series. This is often the case, Likely Lads, Porridge etc. I would be surprised if the new film is a patch on the original series, but it does look like it has a decent cast.
