As the title says.

East Horton Golf Club has had it's No.1 (The Greenwood), closed for a month now to make the final adjustments to the new course which opened this week, and we're playing it for the first time on Saturday.

We have nine brand new holes and all but three others have been significently re-worked. It's changed from a par 70 to a par 72, and from studying the stroke saver there's some real tricky sobs to get around.

Hopefully the weather will hold out for Saturday, and that the wind will be still. I'm really looking forward to it.

Referring back to Homers 'hacked off with this game' thread. I must admit that having two 18 holers and a par 3 nine holer, certainly stems the bordum, and now with essentially a new course to keep things interesting. It's like joining a new club, but with the same friendly faces.

Not sure I could join a one course club now. (Unless it was very special!!) There's always a caveat!

Hapless,

Now the light evenings are here I'll be looking for some evening golf around Southampton after work - it would be good to get together again and see your new course sometime if you are up for that.

Well. I went round it twice this weekend. Whilst there is still some final landscaping to do and the course furniture hasn't arrived yet. It's a vast improvement over the old course. Doglegs galore, which require a good drive to stand any chance of getting a par or birdie. Large two tier greens and a couple of devilish par 3's that just beg to be attacked if you want a good score. You can't pick the balls out of the bunkers anymore as the sand is very soft, which is a new skill I need to acquire.

We played off the yellows for the first round, and then off the whites for the second round. Some holes are very different from the whites when compared to the yellows. There's a huge difference in distance on some of the holes. For the average weekend golfer the fairway bunkers are placed spot on to catch you, ie at 220 yards or so. The second is not playable yet, but it shouldn't be too long before it does.

Finally it's a course that I'd be quite happy to invite folks to.

Give it 10 years when the trees have grown a bit, it'll be great.
