just seen the article on the GM homepage regarding the new cobra range for 2008, does anybody have any further information on how they are going to be improving their FP irons, I was looking at getting the current ones but may hang around now.

Cheers

Ha Ha, trust me I don't work for Cobra.

Basically I got to try he gear as my mate who works at the range, has a good contact in that his dad is the rep for cobra. They get the new gear before anybody hence why I was able to try them out.

nice, guess its taking advantage of who you know in this game. Anyway Jon, what feedback can you give me on the fp's, I don't know if you have used the current ones as well, but if you have; a comparison (if there are any significant differences) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I play with the current FP's and rate them very highly.

THe most striking thing about the new FP's is the shape of the head, It looks very Titleist which shouldn't be surprising as both are part of acushnet.

It does retain quite a deep cavity back, the sole is slightly thinner than the originals and the graphics have been revised.

In terms of feel they seemed a little crisper off the face than my FP's but it is very slight.

I personally wouldn't change my irons on the back of this, there isn't enough improvement but then I don't think cobra were intending there to be, they are simply a re-styling rather than a complete re-working.

If you fancy a set of cobra irons my advice would be get the original FP's as there may be a saving. I would also if possible, try to have a go with either the 2300's or 3400's as both are fine irons indeed and can be got for a bargain price either new or used.

I am going to try the new CB Forged cobra irons on sunday, just out of curiousity really.

Hope this helps.

helps immensely, just what I wanted to hear because my pro has said he will sell the current FP's for £250 once he has gained stock of the newer version. Unfortunately I forgot to ask him when this will be but I will ask him on sunday before I play.

I tried the clubs briefly when he offered me the deal and liked them a lot (as did three other people waiting to try a demo set he had...hoefully I'll get in first as he has limited stock!). One quick question though,is it worth buying the extra gap or lob wedges, I don't know whether buying a specialist wedge would be better. The pro said he will have to charge me £54.99 to order in each of these seperate clubs should I want them. I don't know whether it is worth it?

Thanks again though, you have helped a lot.

Re the wedges, My set came with PW, GW & SW. The Gap and sand wedges are ok but not what I like. I dropped these and now have 56 and 60 deg Mizuno TP series Raw Haze which cost me £70 for the pair.

The mizunos generate awesome spin and are rusting up nicely already.

I would definately opt for the specialist wedges as they do exactly as they are designed to do very well, better than the cobra wedges easily. You will see that most of the guys on here use specialist wedges. They needn't be expensive either as there are wedges that will do a decent job for as little as £15 a pop.

Let us know how you get on.

MWJ - Are the bosses at Cobra aware that you're cheating on them with Madame Mizuno ;)

DHM.
