Some of you might remember my post worrying about my new Ping i20's, G20 3 wood and Anser wedges taking ages to arrive from the Belfry. Thought you might like to hear how they've been since I got my hands on them...
First round awful, kept topping the 3 wood off the tee. Clocked the shaft is a tad shorter than my old trusty Slazenger so nuzzled up to the ball a tad at adress and bingo. Took a while to get used to the round leading edge on the Anser wedges. Eventually got it all working for the last four or so holes.
Second round started with a long bird on the first, an 8 at the third due to a slider diving into a bush, and a couple of 6's; came back in 3 over gross (a sandy bird in there as well) for a nett 67 (2 under) to claim second in the April medal and a shot off the handicap to 14.9 (from 15.8).
New clubs are a joy to play with and I feel confident with everything I hit. Just need to get some more consistency and cut out the big scores and I reckon I can shave another shot off at least this yr. Target is now to get below 14.0.
Have a free fourball on the Brabazon for my troubles (not sure if I will be across though in time to benefit) and the R&A reinstated me to amateur status too. And got permission from TPTB to watch the Masters round my mates on Fri with some beers/vittels. All in all a good week for golf.
Bring on Druids Glen and the K Club, 3 weeks tomorrow...
