I went to my local club Lee Park today for a courtesy round and was quite impressed. Firstly my playing partner let me down so i went and ended up playing with a member and his wife, who were very nice people informed me of how the club was run, explained comps situ etc.

They got off after the 10th then whilst i was waiting to tee off at the 11th there was a 3ball in front who invited me to join them, so i played the 8 with the members who were sound too. After i finished went in the bar had a well deserved pint and a bowl of soup, there was a very relaxed friendly atmosphere in the bar which was good.

The course played well, still quite wet in places but we've had a lot of rain so it is to be expected. I was only disappointed with 2 holes (7+8)as the fairways were poor but i'm assured come the better weather they will pick up.

So, after all that i will be joining and looking forward to playing more.

Sounds good, based on the fact that members freely chat and invite you to join them, I could name a couple of clubs where that rarely happens to new blood. :D ;)

Played there twice Stuart the members and staff were very friendly both times both on the course and in the bar.

Last time we played it was so wet the starter gave us our 2-4-1's back.

Did you get a decent deal?

Yes mate the joining fee has been scrapped and i'm under 28 so i fall in the colts price range of just over £600. I will be going to see the manager next week for an interview.

Aswell as playing lee Park i can play a few others for free which is decent.

Stuart_C. As far as I'm concerned, a friendly and welcoming club means a great deal.
It's a bit nerve racking being invited to play with strangers but that soon disappears when you get going.
There are clubs where non or prospective members can be made to feel like lepers by some members.

If you've found a warm and friendly club, jump in and join, believe me, it'll make your golf much more enjoyable, especially if you've just nipped up on your own for a knock.

Good news Stuart - sounds like a good place.

The welcome you get is the first impression and I think that's a big thing when trying new places. If you like it from the off then its probably going to be ok.

Good to see a forward thinking club not scared to allow potential members to try the place out and a membership prepared to give a little to get something back in a new member and increased revenue.
