Hi all,

Just bought a Vivitar 794HD Action Camcorder!

Has anyone had one of these before?

Also what are GoPros like? Are they worth the money?

real thing to take on board with cameras if they are being used for analysis - first off need one with a 'global shutter' as particularly for the front-on caddy view if no global shutter you get real bad 'arms/hands & shaft/club head deformation that real big 'bend' in the shaft
plus the frame rate for slow motion and if a camera the ability to have great exposure as need a whole lot of light to get through when shooting high frame rates so super slow motion

none of the 'go pro's' to date have global shutters (the shutter works as a horizontal line) so while they are okay for general action stuff or golf vlogs they not really any good for golf analysis - an iphone particularly the newer 6plus/7 with the dual lens a whole lot better re frame rate slow-mo plus little distortion

have no experience of the camcorder mentioned

Top man mate, really appreciate the info.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Not happy with my cam...going back tomorrow!

depends on budget but also if looking to do other type of stuff with a camera other than wanting to record the swing in slo-mo
these days if it's really just something to shoot the golf swing in slow mo to monitor practice only a ways better off with an iPhone 6s

for a long time in golf industry guess around 2012 would find most Pro's with a Casio Exilim EX-100Pro because of frame rate and a manual feature for exposures -- or another of the Casio models that were a tad cheaper at the time but still did a useful job - but these were discontinued some time ago

there's a couple of high end compacts from Cannon/Nikon that do a good job but they are not cheap

but to be real honest now with the advance in smart cells these days the iPhone 6s or newer 7 is the ways most folks are going
as well as having the real high frame rate usb cams in the dedicated Pro studio's

Trackman for some years used to add the driver software to support different camera coming out on the market but with the release of the iPhone 6/6s they stopped adding anymore camera driver software - because the iPhone was capable of doing the job and majority of the Pro's were using the 6/6s or iPad for any ad hoc shooting when not using the dedicated studio usb cams

given the many decent golf apps available for analysis with the iPhone means it all can be done in one small 'box' which can also make calls & msg, has wifi and bluetooth connection - makes it a no brainer and now can pick up refurbished 6s's at pretty reasonable cost - all that needed then is a selfie tripod that can get over here for around 12$ from amazon (so guess can get them from amazon uk also) or a camera tripod with cell holder & pretty much covered for golf analysis these days

big thing to remember with a cell is to get a holder that can support/hold the phone in 'landscape' position (longest side of cell parallel to ground) to shoot and not 'portrait' mode as this gives the 'big black edges' to the video
