Decided to treat myself to an early Christmas present (and something to motivate me through the winter) with a new set of bats.

I went to my local AG to have a hit to see if I could narrow it down as I'd also decided to go with a custom fitting option once I'd got a better idea of what I was after. Went through the TM SpeedBlade, Titelist AP1's, Callaway X Hot, Ping i20 and Mizuno JPX EZ.

In the end it was the Mizuno's that I really liked both the looks of and the way I was striking it. As Burhill is only down the road I headed off to their National Fitting Centre to have a proper look. Anyway, after spending a morning down there and hitting both the EZ and the 825 I settled on the JPX EZ Forged with Project X (5.0) shaft.

I know the looks are necessarily to everyone's liking however they really caught my eye and are a bit different. With Christmas in the way the wait period was a bit longer than usual however I had the call this morning and have just got back with them!

Now I just have to ensure that all evidence of their arrival is cleared away before HID arrives back.....

Lovely!! Really not my cup of tea initially but I am really coming round to them. My Bro told me last weekend that he has to concentrate when hitting my 825 Pro. It made me think of something a little more forgiving, felt like I may be missing out.

Did you try the non forged and how come you ended up with the forged, were they about the same to hit?

Anyway, always a little envious of anything in a Mizuno box and the trip to the National Fitting Center!

Remember to keep them dry! They are no Corbra`s...

I must admit I went along to the fitting thinking that I'd be looking at either the JPX EZ or the 825's. I'd always assumed that 'Forged' meant for the better players/lower handicaps.

I was really surprised that having hit a load of balls it was the EZ Forged that I got on best with and I really didn't feel much difference between them and the normal EZ in terms of difficulty to hit and forgiveness.

Ye, as my Pro/Fitter put it... The EZ Forged are like your Pros with a lot more real estate! I believe a bigger head size is a bigger sweet spot.

"My reoccurring nightmare is that should I drop dead my wife will sell my golf gear based on the price I told her I paid...." This is even more apt now!! :)
