hi every1,my name is Tony i am new to the forum and looking 4ward to some inspirational chat.i have been playing golf for just over a year in my home town of taunton.i am currently 12.1 handicap.I used 2 hack around in the hundreds, but after reading many books, watching endless dvds and many hours of practice i have cut my handicap very quickly and am confident of being single figures soon.I dont believe in lessons as practice makes perfect not £40 an hour lessons.after having a look around the forum i believe i can also make new friends.no im not a loner, lol,i have a lovely girlfriend and 4 children.

greetings, I believe you're the first from Somerset (formerly of Yeovil in my pre-golfing days); get yourself on the map on the 'arrange a game' forum.

I'd love lessons at £40/hour - try £70 - £90/hour.

Welcome along. Glad its working out for you on your own but personally think lessons are a necessity but I certainly don't pay £40 per hour even with the decent pro I use.

I know there are a few guys from Devon and Cornwall so you should get a game pretty easily down that way but I'm sure you'll get loads of offers to play

How doo Tony...
Welcome aboard.
I share your philosophy about the lessons also....
Practice does make perfect.
There 70€ a lesson over here that'd buy some good dvd's and books with a little spare left over for range tokens...... ;)

Just a quick question, when you are practicing on your own after watching a dvd who tells you that you are completing the motion correctly? not knocking just it seems to me too easy to get into a bad motion habit when practicing alone out of a book or dvd. It must work for you though as your handicap drop shows. Keep it up mate and welcome :D

Hi Tony and welcome to the forum.
Congratulations on getting down to 12 in one year. Awesome :)
Do you play any other sports, cricket or tennis perhaps?
One thing interests me though. How do you know what to practice?
I was always told "Practice makes permanent"
Most pros will do half hour lessons for between £10 and £20 and maybe as you get into single figures, you might need help on the finer points of your swing.
Good luck anyway and welcome along. :)
