Playing in a medal this morning and feeling good and relaxed. Played a decent front nine to be 3 over gross at the turn. Some good golf coupled with some steady putting.
Started the back nine on the shortest hole at 109 yards and with a combination of a bad tee shot and a stupid decision I walked off with a 6... Managed to somewhat steady the ship a bit with a couple of bogeys and a few pars...

Then, it happened... Walking on to the 16th tee I thought "here, I could just get away with this today..."
Bang, triple bogey 7 on 16th with 3 putts... Terrible tee shot and then fatted the approach and thinned a wedge.
Followed by Bogey, bogey (the 17th needed a miracle 35ft putt uphill to even rescue that bogey)...
18th I thought I had hit a great 3rd shot pitching 15yrds short to see it bounce up and then roll across a baked green and up on to the second tier leaving a 30ft down hill, down tier putt which I left woefully short and then missed a 7 footer by a mm :o

The result... 38 out and 48 back in, so still not a bad result considering my mini-collapse. Nett 74 and leading when I left, doubtful that it will be a winning score but still some positives to take from it.

My advice, never think you have it sussed :D

Hope everyone else managed to hold it together in the conditions today.

At least you can take some positives from the round mate. Just a reminder how hard this game is & how hard it is to keep it going for 18holes.

Absolutely mate. Only 20 degrees heat but humid as hell. Think I can probably benefit from taking more nutritious food out with me. Tje old Mars bars and isotonic drinks just don't seem to work any more.

its a tough mental game isnt it.

In a trophy comp I started to formulate my short acceptance speech standing on the 18th Tee on the Kings course level par gross, walked off with a 12:eek: you couldn't put that in a movie.....

it ain't over until the thinly challenged woman sings..........

whats even funnier (sadder) is a few days later in the Tuesday Medal, same course, I was +1 on the 18th and shot an 11 :eek:

playing partners now say if they see me on the 18th tee with a good score and driver in my hand they'll break it
