looking for some help, not sure if such a thing exists, but what i want to do is install a DVD/BluRay player in my hideaway cupboard (which has sky box, NAS, Router etc etc etc, a tech cupboard!) and connect it to my TV via Ethernet and NOT HDMI and use media P (samsungs DNLA decoder) to play the films..

Is such a thing in existence? I can find players that have ethernet or wifi, but this is for connecting media to or netflix etc, i want to stream the DVD player output via Ethernet! possible or not??

Our living room will just have a TV on the wall, all the other stuff will be backed off and hidden..

Does that make sense?

I know you can get dedicated dvd carousels but don't know about price though

Heard of these guys doing home cinema, can't be a millions miles away from what you are after.

Or you could just get a PC and build it up as a media server, stick that on your network and run the DVD from the drive, plus you could play avi files direct from the HDD.

I do, but I think you need some specialist kit....easier to just stick the dvds on the NAS...

yeh I mean we don't even watch that many DVDs! Most are on the NAS or via Netflix, but its that odd time the kids get one, or something i cant get elsewhere and have to buy the disc... Might just try living without one, or finding a really slim one i can mount on the wall behind the TV, so one with a disc spindle that can operate at 90*.

Cheers Duckster, will check out that site! Dont want to go PC route though.

I cant think of anything that can do that. I guess you know that you can rip the DVD/BlueRay to just about any format you want (I use DVDFab) then stream it from the NAS to your TV - over WiFi or Cat5.

BTW when you mount your TV dont put it over the fireplace 6ft up from the ground. Looks awful and makes for a very uncomfortable viewing angle. TV ideally should be about head height when you are sat in a chair.

Cheers Sean, use Dvd fab to rip to Nas anyway, but currently don't have a computer with a Dvd drive!!

Tv is already on the wall, don't worry! It will go high enough to avoid sticky little fingers and that's it! Been Round a mates house to watch footy and you get a cricked neck!! Lol

I have a Sony BluRay player, back compatible to play DVD's as well. It also has network capabilities similar to a PS3 so should be able to hook up to a NAS if you have a media server on there, may also do netflix and ondemand too.

no idea is my NAS would be capable Phil., It a Netgear Stora. Probably about 5 years old now! So not that great by todays standards I would expect. TV is a Samsung Smart (but the 1st Gen with pretty basic MediaP service)
