After reading a recent post about NAS I've looked around for one for myself.
I narrowed it down to the Seagate Central 2Tb and the Western Digital 2Tb.
Unfortunately they both seem to have their faults and I cant decide which one to choose.
Does anyone have any experience of either of the above and can help me decide which one to get please.
Thanks in advance

Ive add two WDs in the last 10 or so years. Fine for a few years, then they suddenly don't mount (on MacOS), meaning you dont see your backup drive :( Took third-party software to get back my stuff, fortunately. They are now just book ends. Im now using a Seagate and all ok so far....

Can't give any advice on those two, but i have a Qnap TS-110 - its a single drive device, I have a 1TB drive in it and it can be used for loads of different applications from bog standard data storage/shared drives with quotas to a download station and many other options. I also use mine as a CCTV manager. Hooks my IP Camera's in to one place and can do recording. Pretty easy to configure as well.

I use a Seagate 3TB external drive to stream via Chromecasts in the house and never had any trouble - the only advice I would give to anyone who might not know is to format it using the NTFS file system but I believe it comes formatted like this anyway - so it can handle files 4gB and over. I once formatted it using FAT32 as that was the only file system my PS3 was designed to read and it was a real pain.

For what its worth bob, I buy and roll out these Netgear ReadyNas boxes http://www.trustedreviews.com/netgear-readynas-104-review , I use them as backup devices for my servers as well as tape drives so I can restore quickly without needing anyone around (Obv not one of the plus points regarding your situation, but handy all the same).
their plus point is that they are mirrored so if one dies, you get a warning and your data is still intact so you can replace the faulty drive and keep truck'in.

Bob, do you have a smart TV? If so which brand?

What are you using the NAS for i suppose is key, just backup storage or will you use to stream media to TV, laptop, tablet etc.

Thanks for the help guys.
Brendy, I think the one you linked to is a bit OTT for what I need.
I would just like to have a copy of my films/vids/music etc available for when I'm away from home, rather than carrying round a pile of cds/dvds I can just log into my 'cloud' as it were and having it back up my pc/laptop would be a bonus without me having to do it myself.
Does that make sense?
