Schoolboy errors cost me a win today I reckon... :(

Nothing special in the 1st round and I was 6 shots off the lead......

Round 2 however started with 10 straight pars and felt I couldn't miss....11 putts on the front 9....

Then out of nowhere....2 consecutive double bogies!! 3 more pars to steady the ship..then a par 5 with 180 to go for my second .... blocked it right never to be seen again....another double bogie... 2 pars to finish and 13 putts back 9... 24 putts in total and 15 pars.......so annoyed....best golf I have played for a long time with 3 silly errors preventing a perfect round and what would have been a win.

Ended up losing by 5 shots in the end and finished 4th.

Only consolation was CSS went up in the afternoon so copped a 0.4 cut to go to 5.5.

Summer league comp in the morning so get another stab at CAT 1... Hey ho...

24 putts? ... so you missed practically every green and chipped close?

Well played though, and congrats on your cut

Still good shooting mate, and must have been tough in this heat. I was struggling with it whilst sat in the garden listening to the Test match, so it must have been rough on the course....

Keep believing in yourself. Been there, and finished 3rd 3 yrs on the bounce. You'd be amazed how many players pass you in the other direction if you're patient.

Good shooting sounds a real shame about the errors but still great golf, and so so close to cat 1.
Well played had to of been hard work in the heat and hopefully you can put in that error free sun par round you seem so very close to.

Ethan might be on to something there!

Good performance though mate. Sounds like you're doing alot of things right so keep at it and the scores are sure to follow.

I know how you feel as even though I won the Sunbury Club Championships today, the guy I beat into second place has now finished runner-up for the last four years. I had a three shot lead overnight having gone round in 65 and never let him get closer than three but he looked devastated afterwards in the bar. Just hang in there and give it your best shot next time.

Good shooting!

You must indeed be enjoying the Orkas!

Seems like a normal 'good start' round of Golf to me - teasing start; hiccup or 2 from nowhere in the middle; recovery, but a tension type glitch at the end! Only difference is that that's a pretty good round for me (sub 80) but a 'poor' one for you! And I'd bet that 2 guys ahead are also cursing their mistakes while the other probably he feels he 'got away' with his.

Read OP 4 times now- cant see a score?

5 shots is quite a lot in a scratch club championship, I suppose it is 'nearly'....

I 'nearly' got to scratch h/cap...........:smirk:

sorry...

Well to improve 1 shot on the field with 3 Doubles must mean the rest was a reasonably 'good'.

Though, I believe like you, I wouldn't consider it 'Great'! as indeed, 5 shots is quite a way back, even in a 36-hole comp. Really depends what the others were off, but 6-10 shots would be a normal expectation.

The negative spin would have been 'Should have won CCs but 3 Doubles cost me!'

Glass half full? Or half empty!

And I certainly hope it was a scratch score rather than a handicap one that was being discussed too!

My score was GROSS 79 am & gross 77 pm......not spectacular, but the greens had been ironed and were quick. CSS went up 2 in the afternoon.....winner shot 73/78. We don't have a lot of low guys at our place......we have 1 scratch, then nearest is 3 then a few 4's.

The guy that won it was off 4 but has been down to 1 previously and is just back from injury. 2nd place was a 4 h/c, 3rd place was the scratch guy who beat me by 2 shots over the 36 holes, then me in 4th.

Shame I couldn't reproduce any form this morning and handed 0.1 straight back .......oh well...onwards and upwards!!! Got a lesson tomorrow...going to work on 100 yards and in as I have been shocking from that distance for a while now and it's definitely what is holding me back.
