Following on from another thread regarding EA Games and its planned use of Augusta in its Tiger Woods franchise. One board member suggested that, following Mr Wood's recent performance, it may have been folly for EA to name its franchise after an individual.

So, the question is, if you were on the EA development team back in the 80s (or whenever) and charged with coming up with a kick-ass name for its golf game series for the PC, X-Box, PS3, Online, etc, what would you have called it?

World Class Leaderboard, best golf game for its time ever.

Damn straight.

Why not just maximise market share, minimise naming risk and predict the future and just go for 'World Golf Tour' or 'WGA Tour Pro' or anything a) global and b) non-specific

Pay your license for Tour affiliation and courses - not for a player.

Just look at FIFA, NHL, Pro Evo etc.

or of course

personally the complete "tiger woods" series or "pga tour" series is getting a little old and boring.

I would much rather a AGT (Amature Golf Tour) game where you start off as a complete novice, learn the game, have lessons, start froma 28 HC working around basic level courses. you would be able to bet with other golfers in your four ball, and the winnings would go towards new equipment and on entry fee's to national/region champs and work your way through to the a uk national or euro tour.... then onto the world. any handicap cuts would be also rewarded with money etc....

Why pretend to be tiger woods unless you get to nail half the women he has (which no games offer).

I like the sound of that, like a real life golf simulator. Spend weeks on at the range grooving your swing, work your way up from teh age of 8 with a set of cut-down clubs, through the junior rankings at the local pay and play, ride 15 miles each way on your little sisters bike for lessons with a retired tour pro that you've saved your paper-round money for, land a job selling bags of crisps at a corner-shop down the road from Wentworth, get spotted by Monty chipping coke cans into dustbins around the back, etc...

not quite that real life, cant see me riding my sisters bike.

..... but the coke can chipping sounds a giggle as a bonus drill.

And just think when you get to a virtual 75 years old you get a set of pings! :D

I'd buy it!

I agree that naming a game with associations to Tiger is dodgy so how about "In the hole" er on second thoughts no. I know, "Ram it in 2" no that's no good either. Slip it in, nah God it's hard this.....no that's another one they can't use :D
