Name the Faldo protege

When discussing a golf tip video (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewWSATfytWk) my friend was reminded of a player from about 10 years ago who was touted as the next great player. Such touting proved to be false but my friend can't remember this guy's name but thinks that he was American.

We've established it's not Nick Dougherty (not American) nor is it Charles Howell III.

Any suggestions, folks?

So it seems. I'd never heard of him.

Of course this query wasn't made any easier by my mate distracting us with the Faldo association rather than with the more correct Leadbetter association.
