Im just wondering when you can call an N.R in a competition....
Im aware that you can do it in a stableford comp whether it be singles or team..

But can it be called in a medal round (Stroke play event) and whats the outcome...

If in medal play you cannot complete the hole then you cannot submit a score. I think you can pretty much always return a score but once you post a 10 on a medal card you are not likely to do well so most just return the card but not a score.

So just to recap if we end up having a "mare" on a particular hole rather than loosing more balls or embarrassing ourselves then we can record an N.R. still playout the round but we get 0.1 back and we're out of the competition...

Simples...Thanks for the advice chaps ;)

Not exactly. Out of the comp yes but not necessarily 0.1 up. For handicaps, just because you NR on one hole you don't have to NR the whole round.

As I posted on an earlier thread, basically for handicap purposes every qualifying round is treated like a stableford. So even in a medal comp you can NR on a hole or holes and still submit your card for handicap purposes. Depending on what your score is you won't necessarily go up 0.1. You could even get a cut. You won't record a score for the purposes of the comp however.

Don't take my word for it, read all about it here

If you can return a card even with a 'No Score NR' on it you should. It's certainly what our Competition Sec and Handicap Sec advocate as they say it could affect CSS - not sure I understand that.

Off hand I can't think of any sound reason not to return a card, even if you pull out through injury or illness. Case of 'I've started so I'll finish'
