I got a friend to film my swing on Friday on my phone to enable me to watch back in super slow motion. What an eye opener. I watched it today and it immediately threw up a few shocks. I played it back alongside Rory’s swing to see what the differences was. It was pretty ugly! Even though I think my driver is outside my hands it certainly isn’t. I feel like I am coming from the inside but no its over top. These were not massive shocks but the thing that was, was a big chicken wing that I never knew I had, it explains a lot and is pretty consistent with my misses. At least I know what I need to work on, I wish I had done it sooner. Has anyone else ever seen there swing and realised it is nothing like they think?

i have never seen my swing ,but...i have it on good authority that Rory didnt model his swing on mine.
apparently its more like an octopus fighting with a bunch of bungee ropes.

First time I ever saw my swing on video I recall being shocked. It felt athletic and dynamic but looked anything but! It's improved since and I've grown used to seeing it...

Yes. Still traumatised. The smooth, graceful, Ernie Els type swing I thought I had was clumpy, ungainly and inflexible. The slow mo apps are great though. Once you get your head around the horror of your swing you can start moving forwards. A very useful tool as it shows you exactly what you are doing rather than what you think you are doing.

I hate seeing my swing. Everytime im being videoed on a lesson I make extra effort to keep my swing short to avoid the overswing.. hit a nice shot.. look at the video expecting to see the club stop 3/4 the way up but nope everytime its gone as far back as a normal swing and too close to my shoulders

The golf shop I go to has well equipped studios for long game and putting lessons. The first time I saw the slow-mo videos of my swing I was shocked at the way it looked. My body awareness is shocking! It really hit home when I had a lesson in hitting half-wedge shots. I couldn't believe how long my back swing was when I was trying to hit a half shot.

My pro uses loads of side-by-sides of me next to Rory. Unfortunately, being short and from Northern Ireland are the only things we have in common.

It's a nesscessary evil unfortunately, if you've never seen your swing then I advise don't bother unless your the type of person that doesn't let it bother you or you want to improve. It can play havoc with your game as you think how you look swinging then rather playing the game.

It is impact the follow through and smooth finish I find most of us look nothing like the pros.

I didn't know what a flat backswing was until my nephew videoed my swing for me. I needed a bucket on hand to catch the contents of my stomach. I wasn't ready for that abomination.

The first time I saw mine on video it was a swing of beauty, but, as I knew I would do several forum meets, I worked really hard on changing it to look like an octopus changing his jumper in a telephone box just to feel like "one of the lads"

Now I am over the initial shock I am going to try and do it regularly. It has given me some great pointers that are consistant with my misses

First time I saw mine I remember thinking "Jesus, no wonder the ball doesn't go anywhere near where it should"
Comparing it to Rory's is going to give you PTSD though, his is fairly good.watching your swing is one of the best ways to get better though.

I wish I could overswing! As I get older my swing gets shorter and shorter. Videos show that my swing is much shorter than it feels to me. I barely get my hands to waist height at the top of my backswing these days!

I hate seeing my swing on video as it highlights just what a baldy bonce I've become. One I reconcile myself that hair and I will never be together again, it's always interesting to see what you actually do. I tend to look like I'm swinging a club while suffering a series of electric shocks even though technically it is better than it was several years ago
