I've been working some more and am fairly happy but still not quite there with consistency. I *think* I have a slight OTT move, possibly not moving enough weight to the left on the downswing, and I know I don't do a full swing (right elbow tucked in a bit too much on the backswing).

I seem to be a great 'range' player, but on the course I don't seem to hit it so well.

Be interested to hear your comments, thanks. Any suggestions on helping to get my slightly OTT move into a slightly 'from the inside' move in particular.

Cheers

You're not over the top.

Like I said to you previously, if you want to change your swing then you need to unstick that right arm. That could take your game to a new level OR put you back a few steps until you get used to it.

By having the right arm glued your swing is affected right from the get-go. Your entire swing is compact and narrow immediately from the takeaway. The majority of players will start from position 1 (p1 = address) and by position 2 (p2 = club parallel to the ground) their hands will be more to the right of them, their right arm will be angled away from their body and their hands will be 20cm higher then they were at address.

In this picture (added red lines for measurement) you are swinging from A > B whereas the majority of golfers swing from C > D

Your right arm is still vertical to the ground (at B) - there's aren't (see D)

Your hands are at the same height as they were at address (at B) - there's aren't (see D)

Whats your direction like?

Hi Bob

Direction used to be a nice draw on a good shot, and a pull-draw on a bad shot, but since I've worked on not-flipping the hands over at impact the direction is now pretty much straight on a good shot, fade/push-fade on a bad shot.

[edit] I should add that my consistency of strike is much better (still not great tho) since working on not flipping the hands over.

Hi James

It does *feel* like I'm going OTT - especially on the driver - in fact the longer the club the more it feels like I'm going OTT. Maybe it's a mental thing - I'll upload a driver swing in a bit which might show it some more.

I'm willing to give the right arm a change but like you say I could go back a few steps. I guess I'm a little concerned that removing that compactness I have will reduce any consistency I already have. As you've seen I seem to bomb it on the range but if I can't do it on the course then what's the point, right? ;)

Is that wider takeaway the same for all clubs?

I'm up the range again tonight I think and I'll try out (properly) the right-arm tweak. I'll post some vids afterwards.

Cheers

p.s. up for another game soon?

OK here's my attempt at unsticking that right elbow. Overall it felt ok... felt nicer on the longer clubs more than the shorter ones, seemed to get more height on the shots than usual.

Sorry about the dark videos.

I'm still thrusting that right hip out :(

Your swing is technically soooo connected you come down with high hands because you invariably go back quite flat. It's a good swing... (apart from that driver one where you practically fall back on the shot). If you take the plane a little higher (less connected) you can swing your hands back down a little closer (lower) to your thighs and not be throwing them out at the ball so much.. pulling you off balance.

If you don't convert well on the course with your actual play perhaps you might consider actually playing more than once per month!!! :D You seem to want to work on a swing that (in theory) isn't broken :p Ball flight is the key to fixing swings... you don't seem to have a problem getting the club onto the ball so what is it you want to fix??
