I played Swinley Forest GC at a corporate event a few weeks ago. On the 11th P4, the organising pro comes around and records a video and gives some suggestions. Got the video on Ubersense and I could slow it down. Not sure how to upload it here, but here are a few pics.. (the red lines are my additions).. Comments welcome

The hole is the 11th P4, playing 277y off the yellows - though we are a bit more forward than that. The flag can be seen straight down the line and is protected by bunkers. I was hoping to go right and lay up. The shot went straight at the flag and nearly reached the green, but then ran back down into the bunker. Had a terrible time there (but that is another story)

Address position. I always thought I aligned myself well, but did not realise I was more open than I thought. The video is from a slight angle, so looks more open.

The top of my back 'swing'. My body shape and cricket muscle means I only have a back lift rather than a back swing. Tried changing it, but have given up

About to strike the ball.. NEVER realised that the right heel comes off the ground. Not sure if that is a good thing.

All done..

#2 flat flat flat..........can only lead to problems

I'm no expert..... but 100% agree with this, I've never seen a swing that flat. Does the ball start miles right?

@ vkurup

Ahh you didn't see the vid I uploaded of my swing. I got hacked to bits over that, but 'The Coach' did reply with a few comments and a few reminded me of what I should be doing and one was new to me which I added and has helped me a lot. This is the thread I started, my swing looks quite similar to yours, ignore the other well meaning posts in my thread and read the two (posts #12 and #16 )the coach came back with.

http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?66044-My-Golf-Swing

1) Flat swing: The pro of the day talked about me getting the hands up, i guess he is also referring to the flat bit. Again a lot of it down to my own physical ability (or lack of it). If i took my cricket bat any higher than this, I would be hit on the head. Havent seen Kucher's swing, will look it up. Most of the time the ball will start right. Also my natural flight is a bit of a fade. I can NEVER hit a draw (though I can occasional hook)

2) Hip turn on back swing... that probably the best I can do. If i turn any further, then I will lose sight of the ball and get behind it.

3) Time I take: The pro also thought I took a lot of time while I stand on the ball. His view is that the longer you stand on the ball, the more swing thoughts and muscles tightening you get. In my case, I take time on the ball to get rid of the thoughts and let the muscles relax - it just takes a few seconds more. Though I need to slow down the tempo a bit more.

Khamelion... looks like some good tips from the_coach... lets see if he picks up something.

Here is the video link to ubersence.. The actual swing does not start till about 30sec. (dont need the sound, the pro is talking at the back with the other members) http://www.ubersense.com/video/view/YR5iwt8e/vinesh-kurup-7-iron

I know the Explanar often gets mixed reviews but to me you look a prime candidate for some Explanar drills!

And that 7-iron's got a massive head on it!

Last year, took some lessons with my pro and he put me on the explanar. Liked it, but havent been back on it since. Maybe I should revisit that at some point

Your swing is very flat, to do that you must take the club away massively on the inside for the first foot at least.

Have you tried taking the club away on a more straight to SLIGHTLY inside path? It will help to get a higher or should I say steeper swing plane.

No reason given your physical shape that should not allow you to change your swing, that would depend on how much you wanted too.
There are a bunch of things you could do that would put you in a better position to put a better swing through the ball to get much better result, but that would mean changes. Just refining what you already have some is not going to change the results over much I'm afraid.

There is no reason that any developed 'cricket' muscles would prohibit you to make the changes necessary, that's more to do with the 'muscle' between the ears, your desire & commitment to putting the necessary work needed in.

I can write up what you'd need to be thinking of & in what order, to give you a better swing shape & path to get you better more consistent results, & point you in the direction of a few things you can look at to help that.

Changes needed would go back to basic fundamentals & basic concepts of how you think about the swing, that it happens on an 'inclined plane', the club head being swung around the body, helps if you think of it in more of a circular route.

The club head needs to move back, then inside & up, then it needs to move downwards, then out & forwards, & with an iron downwards, with a driver upwards - achieved by ball position, through impact, then the club head goes back inside & up. Currently this isn't really happening as it should be in your swing motion.

There's 'a bit' to write up, so let me know if it's something you'd want to do, if it is, I'd be able to do that for you, no problem. There's no real quick fix, but working through it wouldn't be that difficult either.

while I only have a backlift, I can generate a fair bit of power from there. So I normally drive about 250y. When the stars aligned and the conditions are good, I have gone past the 300y mark - with my longest recorded drive at 317y - nowhere close to the forum standards. though to be honest I am not a sucker for distance, but need to get consistent. last year, i changed to a Nike Covert driver 11.5 with stiff shaft, which has improved my game. My swing speed is 95-100 depending on the number of weetabix that morning.

the_coach I am always trying to improve... so all help appreciated. Will PM u contacts

Ok. no worries PM is fine, send my suggestions that ways, no problem. What would help too, do you have a close-up front on pic of your grip, & a front on pic of address, or even better a front on swing vid would that includes the club head at the 'top' of your swing. Anyways PM me & we'll go from there. Though don't forget a series of lessons with a good PGA Pro who uses a launch monitor to teach would be a great way to go, you'd just have to let him know you'd want to start from scratch.
But I am happy to help anyways.

Ok no worries, have sent you PM. Ha! with a good deal of work to get down to scratch! then you start back up the other side of the handicap index. You can put the new vid & pics in a PM if you'd rather do it that ways, up to you.

Also got the Mrs to click a few front pics of my grip. This is indoor and not under match conditions, but should hopefully give a good idea about my grip. I think it is neutral

Grip doesn't look in too bad shape. Couple of vids here just for you to have a look at on that subject, as to where the handle lies in the hands.
From the angle of the last pic bit hard to tell whether the left hand is a tad too far turned to the left.
